Hello Reenap,

Modopar is L-Dopa along with Benserazide. It's the basic medication for PD in Europe, the one that has the fewer side effects. Very widely prescribed.

Modopar is the equivalent of Sinemet and is well known in Europe. I was diagnosed with PD in 2001 and started treatment with this drug on 2 62.5 capsules per day and about a year later was taking 3 125 per day. My feelings today are to avoid taking Sinemet or Modopar for as long as you can get by without them.

I am not popular for saying this, but there are no Pd drugs on the market that do anything to slow down the progression of Pd. That is correct! So, of your mom wants to do anything to slow down the progression of her Pd then exercise is the only thing that has been proven to do that.

Have a look at my profile to see what I have done to become Pd medication-free for the past 15 years.

Madopar replaces dopamine which helps to control rigidity of muscles and control tremors. It's much better than Senemit which is the other 'gold' treatment. Make sure your mum gets the original Madopar made by Roche and not a generic product.

Kewlfox....In what way is madopar better than sinemet please

It is the original product. Sinemet came later and has more side effects long term.

Thank you Kewlfox This reinforces my resolve to ask the PD nurse whether I can try that and see if there is any effect on my dyskinesia. The stock answer is that they are the same but in the absence of any other suggestions from her I'll have a go .

It's worth trying. Discuss it with her. They are not the same even though they are said to be so.

On the Azilect, what do you mean by, it acts like a slingshot? I am only taking sinemet and am wondering if I need something in addition to that.

Azilect stops your body from reabsorbing excess dopamine, so more is available for you to use. My neuro put me on it straight away and it's been good after I got used to it.

I'm on 4 a day and it has really helped me with shaking and my movement. Also in OZ, just be careful what you take it with I have found if I have milk to soon after I'm very sick. Good luck
