My mum who is 72 and fit for her age has just been diagnosed with early stages of PD. Can anyone point me to a good resource in terms of delaying progression and general information on diet/nutrition and well being?
Many thanks

This is good stuff, Roy. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Roy, will have a good read.
Hi Reena. What are her primary symptoms? Does she have a tremor?
I had a whale of a tremor, and it led to soreness and stiffness from my right hand up into my shoulder and upper back. The pain worsened and became unbearable. I found acupuncture hugely helpful. It really loosened up the musculature.
But that's just me. If you're looking for something that has been shown to slow down the progression for a cross-section of parkies, there's only one thing that I know of, and that is rigorous exercise a good three or more days a week.
For me, that's boxing for Parkinson's, also called Rock Steady Boxing. It's a non-contact workout that approximates boxers' "interval training." Read up on Scott Newman, a lawyer who dramatically mitigated his symptoms by working out with a boxer friend, and was so amazed by the results he started the Rock Steady program (now in 300 cities in the U.S., New Zealand and Australia): rocksteadyboxing.org/
Here's a program in the U.K.: beatparkinsons.co.uk/
all seems to point to gut health....meats take longer to digest and move, probiotics can only help, chec for missing digestive enzymes (intolerance/allergies), avoid antibiotics, check for hidden antibiotics, eliminate sugar as much as possible. not a doctor, just what I picked up recently.
eat garlic...you know that it's important to smash garlic clove, not just slice it, I was in the dark for longest time, nobody told me!
I just learned of black garlic which is many times more potent, from dr mercola's newaletter.
Delay the Disease - Parkinson's exercise program. She must get her heart rate up daily and practice big movements. Many of the telltale signs of Parkinson's are actually habits that can be delayed or reversed. But you must practice daily.

Go to parkinsonscreativecollectiv... and download the free book, The Peripatetic Pursuit of Parkinson Disease
The book looks very good but it's so colorful I'm afraid I'll use up all my printers ink. Is there a way to print it in black and white? Maybe I'll just read it on the computer page by page.
This is not to detract from all of the advice above but your mum will need a period of time to adjust to the diagnosis.
Here is a link to an excellent page on the Parkinson's UK website. It might encourage her to take a deep breath and enjoy life while living with Parkinson's.
Thank you, early days and am sure she will take some time to accept and adjust .
Oops, sorry. Here's the link. The video is especially good.
Thank you
The Michael J. Fox foundation website is an excellent resource for information. All the advice on exercise and diet sounds great too. Diagnosed a year ago but had PD for many years before diagnosis.
As I have told most people on this site I have been able to overcome most of my Pd symptoms by doing exercise. If your mom wants to get better then look at my profile and see if it might interest her.
I was diagnosed in 2010 it is a very slow condition which will get worse but just try and keep your mum active dancing, tai chi, walking, ect, diet well I am now70 so I just enjoy my food with in reason. Just keep her happy.
make sure she gets good supply of organic fruits and vegies, berries. nuts are important...if she can't chew, grind them
