high dose vit b1 / thiamine warning
I found this interesting so I had my B-1 levels tested and was within the normal range. Problem is that I am on heart medication, (warfarin/digdoxin) and the literature seems to say that you shouldn't take thiamine supplements.
I find that when I check out various meds/supplements I can't take them because of the warfarin. Others should pay attention to that also.
In general, oneshould never take one B vitamin in high doses without taking it along with a high potency B-complex. This is because most B vitamins work together is many varied reactions in the body. When you force an increase in pathways that utilize B1, it also uses up the other B vitamins that are also co-factors in that pathway and you wind up with not enough for other essential needs. This can happen with minerals as well. That's why unless you are very well educated in nutrition and how everything works together in the body, it is wise to seek the help of a good nutritionist before supplementing on your own. (Beware, most doctors only have a very superficial background in nutrition if any.)
That warning has been removed from the web page.
