Dancing and Taichi with Yogic breathing has improved my parameters of lower Parkinson score and has helped me achieve control.

sounds like you are in a good therapeutic activity
Hi hermie. Yes dancing and Tai Chi are good exercise for Pd but they do nothing to reverse the movement symptoms. Have you noticed that Pd patients are able to dance without any problems? There is a reason for that. Pd only affects movements we do without having to think about how we do them. Things such as walking, writing and bringing food to our mouths. When we dance, we have to think about our movements all the time, and as such, they cause us no problems. I have had to learn how to walk by controlling my walking using my conscious brain, the sae as I do when I dance.
I have reversed my Pd movement symptoms to such an extent that I no longer need to take any Pd medication. I have been medication-free for the past 14 years.
It affects the smaller space movement . Cannot pick up a spoon but can catch a ball when thrown at you unexpectedly
Hi cabbagecottage. Your remarks only underline the fact that anything we do 'consciously' works. The things we normally do without having to think about it, 'don't work'. We all have to learn how to do the previously 'automatic' movements consciously. That is how I have overcome most of my movement problems.
Maybe why singing comes easier than when you try to speak .
Hi cabbagepatch. If you suffer with a faint voice, have you tried shouting as loud as you are able? If so, are you able to make quite a loud noise? Shouting is a conscious action, speaking isnn't
John i saw you book and tried to order it on amazon today. Feedback no book in stock and they cannot state when it will be available!!
Yes been doing that for years , even when he is doing anything and he freezes I encourage him to sing louder and louder , children's rhymes. Anything .
It's common sense to me ,
Most things I have read I had been doing anyway .. I seem to be able to find ways and means of coping .
John gets very switched off periods statue like in mind and body. I know now not to fight that and wait .. Not easy ....
Well i am having classical Parkinson for 6 years 3 months and may be an year before it was declared.... Have followed yoga with walk for 30 min 6 times a week and medicines. I could not reduce my medicines and i lost weight from 82 kg to 74 kg. I took to dancing from December and have found that 6 hours a week of dancing has made me get off the baggage of constipation, i eat more of course things which help us , my face is more expressive, my gait and feet drag have improved, i drive my scooter in traffic for even a hour everyday. Yes i am conscious and that helps. When my instructor changes dance steps i which their is quick movement of hand and feet i struggle.... i come home form a sequence and then i can deliver like never before... my cramping in my feet which had started has not created any issues and my PD medication has reduced by 25% . John Pepper if ever you come to India i would love to meet you....Thank you cabbagecotton for sharing your inputs...
FRIEND I TEACH MANAGEMENT SUBJECTS TO MBA STUDENTS AND TAKE A THREE HOUR SESSION TWICE A WEEK. I HAVE BEEN GIFTED BY GOD WITH A LOUD VOICE WHICH MAY NOT DUE TO PD IS GETTING TO NEED DOWN. I SPEAK TO 60 STUDENTS WITHOUT ANY MIKE.
BUT OF LATE I HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME EXTRA SALIVA IN MY MOUTH... THAT I FIGURE OUT WILL LEAD TO DROOLING. ANY WAY WITHOUT MEDICINE WE CAN REDUCE THIS....
First, count your blessings cause PD has dried out my GI tract from one end to the other. Loss of saliva has led to tooth decay and expensive dental work.
Drooling is due to lack of muscle control rather than extra saliva, so as if you are able to keep your PD under control you will be ok.
Also, I don't know about non-drug methods, however, amantadine does dry out the mouth.
Hi Hermie. When you do your walk, do you walk as fast as you can or do you just walk? If you want to slow down the progression of your Pd then you must walk as fast as you can, only 3 times a week, not every day!
The drooling problem is caused by the fact that you are not swallowing often enough. Your brain is not telling you to swallow, so you have to consciously swallow more often.
Although dancing will not slow down the progression of Pd, it is very good for you.
