Truthfully, when I saw this gorgeous baby I thought what genetics will he/she be challenged by? The post itself is interesting and helpful. I tried to print it out to share with my son (PD). Need to go to the original source of the blog. The exercise makes sense.

I can see the benefit in this, but it does not answer the problem, "How do we overcome the damage caused in the substantia nigra by the build-up of alpha synuclein in the glial cells, which causes them to stop production of dopamine?

sure. i hear u and u r right :) i put it out there as it had a very primordial appeal and with a degree of frivolity that maybe didn't come across ;) cheers

I think this makes a tremendous amount of sense. We've been wondering why the fast paced cycling works and this may be a clue to the answer. The body is moving left to right at a very high rate of speed which seems to be generating the internal matter of the neurons, and/ or getting rid of the mis-folded alpha synuclein. I'll check this idea with a neurologist.

thx for your interest and comment!

Spoiler alert

Stand with your spine erect and arms at your sides.

On an inhale, raise your right arm up. At the same time you raise your right arm, lift your left leg, bending at the knee. (I FELL OVER)

On an exhale, lower both the right arm and left leg.

On an inhale, raise your left arm up. At the same time, lift your right leg, bending at the knee.(FELL OVER AGAIN).......... ( AND SO IT WENT)..............

You know I think they might really be on to something here, just have to arrange some support to grab with the free hand before you try. Maybe I will be able to lace up my shoes.

Thanks

Hi all. That oppositional (left leg-swinging right arm, right leg-swinging left arm) movement is great -- and something to work on if you have rigid gait as I do. But from what I understand, to really get the neuro benefit you may have to do a bit more than that - you have to cross your midline.

Some other postings and videos of Cross Crawl, for instance, would have you reaching your left arm across your torso to tap your raised right knee. Or leading with your right elbow and bending even more toward a raised left knee. Some of them were a bit JFonda early 80's but the point was all about getting one side your body to reach to the other side.

Think about the various boxing for PD programs out there and how beneficial they are. You're more than likely doing lots of trips over the midline when you're landing punches. Same with LSVT, TaiChi/Qi Gong and David Leventhal's energetic cross-body scoops of the arm in Dance for PD.

(Apologies to you, GymBag, for adding a few more degrees of difficulty to the Cross Crawl exercise you tried. It's just that on reading the original post, I wondered about the "cross" in the name cos no crossing was apparent to me.)

This all makes perfect sence. I get it now, Thanks Motal and Shakydad

Jane Fonda MMMMMMM

If it had not been for that dumb visit to North Vietnam and those dumb televised Anti-war Anti USA statements and that dumb space movie she would have been a superstar. DUMB

Hi I don't want to turn that corner away from PD and into politics.. Not in this forum.

But more generally speaking, a thought occurs ... that some left side right side reaching over and across may be beneficial to the body politic as it is to the PD body.

Cross Crawl for the nation? Baby steps. Baby steps.

Speaking of dumb. Dough , I will have to read next time.
