This is an interesting study. Well worth reading: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/273...

I have been trying it for around 8 weeks now and it does seem to be helping especially with brain clarity. My stumbling speech has improved. I am quite optimistic as my symptons are virtually gone except when stressed, and my arm still doesn't swing! I am in the early stages of Parkinson's though so it might not last.

This is great news, Astra7. I know that it takes time to heal, so hopefully the research will soon reveal just how much NAC is needed to improve your PD. Blessings!

n-acetylcystine (nac) is a precursor to glutathione, have you tried it? i'm looking at it, first glance, it's not without hazards/discomfort.

Oh yes, this study has been cited before on this site. Doesn't hurt to cite it again. I get the NAC in powder form and add 24% by weight calcium hydroxide (also known as pickling lime) to get pH neutral. Pure NAC is quite acid and I found it irritates my sensitive urinary tract. I then cap the mixture up in 00 caps for a bit more than 600mg per dose.

Has the NAC powder helped you?

It has helped ... with a prostate condition!

I can't say it has actually helped with the PD. I found the study convincing so I am keeping the faith. I chose to cut back from 3x / day to 2x / day because it was thinning out my already scarce saliva which may have contributed to dental problems.

Hi Apologies in advance if this has been covered before. How much NAC do you take per dose and how many doses daily? Also, if I don't want to go the pickling lime route, any recommendations on a ready made form that is less acidic ?

My dosage was a bit more than 600mg each time as I said, 2-3x/day. That is also the typical dosage in prepared capsules. From the cited study: " Subjects took the 600mg NAC tablets 2x per day on the days that they did not

receive the IV NAC."

I am now taking 2 x 600mg per day as 1 didn't seem to be doing much. I just take the capsules.

Have just noticed that they stink! Could not smell them before!

Astra7. Thanx. Perhaps being able to smell them is a sign they work??

I'm hoping!

Yes maybe this is great news! Astra, any difficulty taking the NAC? I had nausea and sleepiness (600 mg 2 x day per the trial)

My mouth is a little dry and I am a bit more constipated than normal, but all relatively minor.

Did you have any improvement or did you have to stop too quickly?

I didn't notice any improvement and the nausea probably created a little stress but I was only on it for a few days. I dropped the dosage to 600 but was still nauseous. I would try it again if I thought it would help with my tremor.

I take mine at night so perhaps the nausea passes as I sleep. Also someone mentioned the acidity which might be your problem and can be balanced with various things.

I think it helps me sleep too.

Now why didn't I think of that? BTW if you have tremors has it helped?
