23andme Trial - It's free to anyone dxd with Parkinsons. This will help with researching a cure for PD and provide info to you personally

The 23andme clinical trial for Parkinsons just requires you to provide a saliva sample via a kit that they will send you. Send it in and you should get a great DNA report and even a family history / ancestry report (I am waiting on mine).

The more people who enroll in this research, the more powerful it becomes, and the more likely it is that we can find a cure for Parkinson's. Again, it's free to those with PD (normally it's $199).... more info at:

This is great... very informative. I did it awhile ago and was amazed at how much you get for nothing. My kids loved it too because they could see where their ancestors came from.

I have done this and feel it is a real contribution I can make toward a cure. It is extremely informative and is completely internet based. You never have to leave your home. The fact that it is free for PWP is another positive.

Diane, so glad you brought up the fact that you don't have to leave home! It is already helping PD patients... it's free, and you get valuable personal genetic information. My total time investment included a short 15 minute survey and 5 minutes to go through the saliva collection kit. This one is a win/win for everyone!

I just ran across this (and I sent a note to 23andme asking when they were going to add the UK).

The 100,000 Genomes Project aims to transform NHS healthcare by integrating genomic medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions. The researchers are studying people with early onset and familial Parkinson's and related affected and unaffected family members to understand more about the condition and help develop new tests and treatments.

Where: England

Who: 1000 people with Parkinson’s (either early onset before the age of 45 or familial)

Deadline: December 2017

Funded by: Department of Health- Genomics England

Read more about the study in the information sheet:
