Hit me with your rythm stick...

11 Replies

I do like a bit of Ian Drury, he was one of a kind. I'm sure he won't mind me stealing his song title after all he had his own mobility issues with childhood Polio.

In my quest to keep moving I went walking today the countryside where I live is breathtaking. As my mobility crumbles I am finding ways to compensate. Only people with this condition will understand when I say long flat stretches fast become Alice in Wonderland tunnels that seem to never end and walking is impossible. So I deliberately choose complexity. Steep hills, uneven surfaces, grass, gravel, rocks. The more varied the better.

Today I also fashioned a walking stick from a fallen branch. The stick itself doesn't improve my walking. It did however improve my confidence and I improved my walking.

I walked for more than an hour up to Fat Lips Tower and was rewarded with 360 views and chocolate.

Collene;

Today is my birthday, and I just walked in the door from lunch with a friend.

I stop Azilect a few days ago. The dizziness is somewhat gone, but now I feel so stiff and slow.

Reading your article inspires me. I am heading out before it starts raining.

Later and thank you!!!

Colleen by the time I got to the door it was raining. I walked anyway. For 10 minutes in the rain. It felt so good. Thanks again. Have a good weekend.

Much love from Rvs G

I have been meaning to write you for a while...to acknowledge your courage and your honesty. Thank you so much for sharing.

I envy you your green hill and tower as my little mountain town is slowly buried to the rooftops in snow. It is very beautiful but doing laps in my condo is uninspiring but necessary. (I wear my iPod and if the right song is on when I hit a landing and no one is about, then I dance my way to the end, before heading up the next flight of stairs.)

Stay strong. Be well in spirit.

This is the first time I've heard anybody verbalize that strange effect of walking on long flat stretches, especially in town. I was shocked and pleased to find I could hike on some pretty arduous paths, but walking the 4 blocks to the store on the flat never ending sidewalks is impossible. I have tried that walk at least twice since I moved here and have turned around both times. It felt like I was dragging weights behind me.
