I noticed that Michael J Fox no longer has diskenesia, It used to be very bad. Does anyone know what med he is taking?
Diskenesia: I noticed that Michael J Fox no... - Cure Parkinson's
Diskenesia
He had DBS on one side his brain which has reduced his involuntary movements.
Surprising because he swore he wouldn't get any more surgery.
Too much diskenesia and side effects from sinemet
Medtronic site says MJ Fox did not have DBS. He had brain surgery years ago but it wasn't DBS.
I heard amantadine has helped but may just be a rumour.
Hikoi,
You are a mine of information & common sense. The reason I asked 'why?' re treatment for diskynesia is that, although I have had PD around 12 yrs I have only experienced diskynesia for a few months. I have had tremors quite badly in the past but as part of a clinical trial it was confirmed that this was not diskynesia.
Over the past year I started to 'freeze' & this was treated with ApoGo injections. These worked quickly & effectively for around 9 months except for an increase in RLS at night but then the frequency of the injections increased causing diskynesia which makes some other people feel 'seasick'. It also makes me tired but WHAT THE HECK? This is better than pain, freezing, gait & balance problems etc etc. I should have transferred from injections to a pump by now but thanks to an informal trial involving my medical support team & an alternative therapist I have not needed Apomorphine for months.....more to follow on this. My consultant has just prescribed Amantadine.
Off topic - is that 'The Kiss' by Klimt? My eyes are not what they were.
MJFox had a thalamotomy in 1998. I understood this means he may not be eligible for DBS now.
I found a reference which confirms that amantadine has helped with his dyskinesia, it is here

(OT - Your eyes do not deceive honeycomb - It is indeed The kiss by Klimt)
Thanks Hikoi.
