Three years with PD and my sleep not good I find I'm up all night and sleeping up to 12hours if not woken up in the day.
I used to work a shift pattern that consisted of two days 6am start two nights 10pm start until 6am into two half nights 6pm start finishing at 1am into two rest days.
Is it the pd or is it years of shift work?

My hubby was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 8 years ago and has suffered from sleep issues many of those years. After about 1 1/2 yrs on Amantadine, he'd be awake for 26 or 27 hours at a time. This happened once a week or so, it's hard to remember now. When he stopped taking Amantadine, that issue went away.
Mirapex caused him to sleep at odd times...while sitting down to eat was one & other random times during the day. His Mirapex dosage was reduced a lot & he takes it near bedtime so most of those issues went away, but he still falls asleep during the day more than average and is awake late into the night. He has never been asleep 12 hours during the day though.
I think it's the nature of PD to cause sleep issues and the meds used to treat it also contribute to the problem.
If you haven't already told your doctor, you should mention it to him. He might be able to help too. I googled some info for you; these links have some info that might help you.
My husband has 1 magtech tablet, this is a combination of magnesium theonate, taurate and glycinate, and he has 1 l'theanine just before bedtime and he is sleeping so much betterr
I take three venoflexin an hour before I should go to bed but they have no effect I'm making a list of all of the meds that the forum is mentioning thanks it's really helpful.
I was a shift rotating shift worker before I retired under disability. I also have a sleeping problem very similar to yours. Although the past shift work may be contributing could have some contribution to our current sleeping problem, I think the main cause is the side effect from the PD drugs and also the the disease itself. If you talk to others with PD, you will find that one of the major problem with people who had PD for a while is sleeping .... Both too much sleep and too little sleep.
Thanks gridless it gets confusing after a while I have had this 360 flip for some time now. I can get up and function with only two hours sleep if I need to but if I don't have anything important to do I'll sleep all twelve hours. Thanks for your reply.
Good Evening. My husband has REM Sleep Disorder which is a pre-curser to PD. I will share what he takes after many trips to the Neurologist. He was put on Clonazepam which made him feel like a zombie in the morning, and after 6 months starting having an effect on kidneys.
It was suggested we order CBD Oil from Stanley Brothers in Colorado. We ordered everyday advanced 5000mg. They ship to Florida. The first time he took we noticed a difference, not only sleeping, but anxiety and depression.
We recently visited Colorado and also learned about CBN capsules, by Mary Medicinal. You take two a night two hours before bed. He use to hate going to bed as he never slept and was afraid of the dreams. Not sure if you live in a state that sells medical marijuana or recreational, but do some research. It has changed his life with no side effects. We live in Florida and they ship the CBD oil, but can't get the CBN pill sent. Any questions get back to me. Laura
Hi Laura thanks for that unfortunately I live in the uk and of course were so far behind every one else re the cannabis laws it's still illegal here. I'm willing to try anything at this stage cheers for replying.
I have somewhat of the same problem. I go to sleep at night and sleep 12 hours. Not really hungry either. I think my days and nights are mixed up. I feel more like doing things at night and sleeping during the day. I am on the Neupro patch and the CL pills as well...the 75 and take three a day. Still feel nauseous if I don't eat something before I take the pills.
Gabapentin has been prescribed for Parkinson's. Now they are finding this medicine helps sleeping, pain (for arthritis and other body pains), migraines, and hot flashes. My gynecologist takes for hot flashes. This medicine is taken at night before bed.
My husband has Lyme and Parkinsonism (or Parkinson's disease - depends who you are talking to!!) and he has started to take Gabapentin for arthritis morning pain and Carbidopa for Parkinsonism.
Hi HENRY research LYME disease as parkinsons may well be the symptom not the cause but you will need to find a ILADS dr that can help or send blood to IGENEX in the USA or similar pathology in GERMANY . Also research BUHNER PROTOCOL and buy CATS CLAW liquid herbs and start taking them as that kills those bacteria which are stealth to normal pathology cheers
