THE HEAT

Beloved Friends;

I have a very simple question:

How do any of you handle the summer heat?

I live in Salt Lake City, UT, and we have desert heat, hot and dry.

This week the temps have been between 90 to 100.

What do you do in the summer heat to stay comfortable?

Make this a good day.

Hugs and love from Eva

:)

I lived in southeastern AZ at 5000 ft. It is in the 100's now. Prior to PD I could run and ride my bike with lots of fluids and slower times during the summer. Since PD I became heat intolerant due to inadequate sweating; an autonomic dysfunction. I now live in OR. It is much easier to bundle up and stay warm than to strip down!

Hi Eva, I don't know if you remember but I live between Ogden & SLC so I know what you are talking about. I eat a lot of popsicles & make my own smoothies. Staying hydrated is very important for the pain I have in my whole right side. It seems to help me have longer "on" times. I have found gatoraide or poweraide etc. helps a lot.

Hugs, Sherry

If you figure it out, let me know. I'm in Charleston, SC and it's been close to 100 every day this week. I used to be able to handle the heat, I worked with horses then in a pizza kitchen. Now I live with my 75 year old mom, who is on blood thinners. She likes it warm and I don't! I now sweat profusely and can't stand the heat. Makes life a little difficult.

"I worked with horses then in a pizza kitchen"?

The diners ate like a horse?

The heat in the kitchen caused you to smell like a horse?

Horse meat toppings?

I am in Las Vegas where it is expected to cool down Monday to 108.

I deal with it by remembering why I moved from Boston. I will take the heat over the cold any day.

Being borned and raised above the Arctic Circle, the cold does not bother me at all.

I did a trade show in Vegas in July one year. I made the mistake of staying in a hotel CLOSE to the show rather than the show hotel. It was only a block away. My contact lenses literally dried in my eyes as I walked the block. I'll never forget it. Biggest problem with Boston weather is the damp, not the heat and cold. I come from NY, so we got it, too. Humidity is the killer.

Hi there, I avoid working or exercising outside in the heat during the warmest hours of the day. I will also use fans, a/c and cold showers drinking lots of cool/cold water regularly. And i whine allot, I am sure that must help somehow.

=)

Not much new or exciting in the ideas above. Know, if you want to move to Alaska or Siberia....

We just had Mitsubishi air conditioners installed, one in the master bedroom and one in the living room/dining room area. We have a very open floor plan, so that should do it. Expensive, but extremely efficient and virtually silent, they will pay for themselves over time. Due to my neurologist writing a note suggesting air conditioning and the energy saving features, we are hopeful for a deduction on our income tax as well. No more loud, energy sucking air conditioners stuck in my windows! Now if my husband and I can just come to an agreement on the settings. My studio is also in our basement, so it stays nice and cool down there, find myself down there quite a bit.

Try Coconut Water rather than Gatorade. Twice the potassium, WAY better electrolyte balance and only a fraction of the calories and sugar. It will cool you off much better than Gatorade because of the absence of Sugar. I live in Ogden, so I'm in there with you guys. I also have a couple of other things I use. One is a gel pillow for at night. I got it at Costco and it stays chilled. Sometimes I have to turn it over in the middle of the night to access fresh gel, but if you've got the night sweats, it chills your head and the sweats disappear. I also have one of those polar towels to wear during the day. It really cools you down fast. Hope this helps!!

Hope everyone is doing well today!

Linda
