Facial Twitch

I've developed a twitch below my right eye that comes and goes. Could it be due to PD? I read that it can be caused by lack of sleep - yes, that PD insomnia might contribute. I would love to hear from others who might have the same thing.

Please talk to your Neurologist this could be a type of Dystonia, and can be related to PD. I have a friend that has that and he is given Botox around the face to stop the twitching. I hope this helps you,

Hi Joanne. I had that twitch, both in my left eyelid and my right thumb. They both disappeared after I started the Eldepryl medication, but I don't remember how long after. I know that Pd is supposed to be on one side or the other, but having had symptoms for 29 years at that point of diagnosis, I could very well have been bilateral.

John, I'll let you know if there is any improvement when I start my walking. The rains have prevented us from finishing my footpath but they should be over very soon now.

Hi Joanne. Don't expect any obvious results in a matter of weeks. It is more likely to be a matter of months or even a year or two. It took me ten years to get where I am today and I have maintained it for the last twelve years. It is worth being patient.

If your twitch is more like a flutter then I have heard that this is due to a lack of oxygen in the fluttering region.

My husband used to have it but thinking about it I haven't noticed it since he has been diagnosed and on Sinemet . His half brother also has Parkinson's ,he also has small seizures they have the same mother who suffered with twitch a great deal never diagnosed with Parkinson's but was a lady who lost her sense of smell had difficult skin , and often felt unwell and got nervous started drool and dropped her food while eating .

He has both a nephew and niece who started to suffer seizures .

When I ask the consultant if it was heredity he said no but people are now living longer and it s starting to look that way .

Although not diagnosed until the age of 70 , I now recognise that My husband had been living and suffers ing in one way or another since he was a young man .

Be interested in any opinions .

I also think my husband has early PD symptoms for decades. He always said,

"I can't smell anything", problems with constipation, and slowness as he got into

his 40s-50s. He was diagnosed at 64 but he'd had a curious fall a few years before, when

his foot hit a bump in a sidewalk (didn't lift his foot up high enough). 20-20 hindsight

can be helpful but don't dwell on it.

Hi, I have a twitch on my bottom lip and eye, both on left side, same side as my tremor My nurologist says it is part of my Parkinson's.

Hmmm. This is interesting. I've had "fluttering" but like a nerve thing under one eye since childhood. I've had ptosis in that eye for 3 years now. Because my main concern when in a neurologist's office was always migraines and an essential tremor in the hand on that side, I never once brought up that flutter/twitch. But now I wonder after reading responses here.....

I think it's a dyskinesia of the facial nerve. Meds might need adjusting. This happened to a member of a PD support group I lead. Good luck.

I also have a twitch below my right eye that comes and goes. My neurologist told me it had nothing to do with Parkinson's, that it was just from anxiety. I told him I had been far more anxious at times in past years and had never had a twitch. It didn't make sense to me that it was from anxiety.

Thanks to everyone who responded. It is interesting that neuros are not in agreement about whether or not it is related to PD. Mine still comes and goes. I'll keep you all in touch about it.
