I was diagnosed in January 207 when I was 49. Looking back, for me it seems that loss of sense of smell was the first symptom and I think that goes back to 1998, i.e. 9 years before diagnosis.

I was diagnosed at 47 but had symptoms for at least 4 years prior. Educate yourself about the disease, and remember you have PD it doesn't have you!!

I was diagnosed in 2004 at the age of 55, but the doctors reviewing my medical records state that my symptoms, were misdiagnosed for nerves in 1987 and it appears to be PD , at the age of 26.

By the way, I met a person at the PD Unity Walk in New York City who was 16 and diagnosed with PD.

Diagnosed at 47 and was symptomatic since age 35. I think it's important to understand that PD is not a disease of the aged. I read some research that indicated that in the US as many people under the age of 50 as over the age of 50 are being diagnosed. Life with PD can be challenging, but rewarding and great fun. Just remember, it's all an adventure!

Thanks for all your replies. It seems that early onset isn't thatuncommon. I am new to this site but not to Parkinson's. I've been diagnosed for 5 years. I also lost my sense of smell 9years ago and had tremors for a year before diagnosis.

I was diagnosed at 48 as well -- 21 years ago. I'm now 69. Although I've slowly rotted away over the years, I still have a wonderful life with lots of friends

This is awesome to hear. Iv'e had my good and bad daze. I have never been 2 a support group. I don't drive far away. AND ( shh shh ,I don't care 4 the way my husband drives!)! So I have 23andme online, patientsandme, and now HealthUnlocked. I'm usually shy, unless I really believe in something or someone. So I like 2 observe and listen to what people say! I am truly pleased that u have friends that understand. mine either treat me as im going to fall into a million pieces, or that im a lepper. Small minded people!!

The youngest in our centre was diagnosed aged 18 and the average is 45 as newly diagnosed. Usually no tremor just rigid with dystonia and with bilateral symptoms. Young onset is no longer unusual

I can remember my first symptoms at the age of 8yrs. old. 1965. I was dx. in 2001. My mom and dad had P.D. and my moms younger bro. had MS. My parents wood always remind me 2 pick up my feet when I walked and my left show was always worn down weird, and I can still see them. I was told I wood not get anymore shoes if I kept walking the way I was, and times were hard, and they couldn't afford new shoes all the time. Also when I went 2 anyones house I had 2 sit at kitchen table cause I always spilt or dropped what ever I was eating or drinking.I used 2 think that no one liked me. I can still recall saying i'm never having kids cause I don't want 2 yell at them all the time. And I was always falling , stubbing my toes and bumping into things.PS. I am now 56yrs,

I was diagnosed with pd two years ago. I'm sure I've had it longer than that.

I'm 60 years old and work in a high school. I planned on working longer but now I'm exhausted....
