I was put on Sinemet after I was diagnosed and I had severe hallucinations and it took months to get rid of them, but they did finally go away. Be very wary of hallucinations or any kind of paranoid feeling. It can be very subtle and only a feeling, but you can talk yourself into the visual stuff if you let it get control of your thought process. I sat down and typed my way out of it. I typed all my feelings and convinced myself that it was all just an hallucination and you kind do it. Mind over matter. Remember that. You mind is very powerful for good and no good.

I was only on it for a short time because I had high blood pressure spikes.

My husband has taking it for 7 years , He does get the occasional hallucination buta generally from others meds he has taken , he does seem to be sensitive to quite a few . Although he does take them I can't say we have found them of much help he also uses the Neuro patches . In fact about an hour after asking one he seems to be much worse for an hour .

It all depends on the type of Parkinson's you have from diagnosis. I'd it the sinemet or the condition or a combination of both.

I'm afraid I don't understand the question. What do you think might be wrong with/about Sinemet?

from reading some of the comments on this forum i was beginning to get the general feeling that a lot of pd sufferers were not liking it ,as i'm trying to get off other meds and hoping to rely on it solely I was hoping to get a feel of what the perceived problems could be both long an short term.

My physician prescribed Sinnemet one year ago, along with Carbidopa-Levodop and Lyrica. Having no problems.

I was prescribed Sinemet when first dxd as part of a trial. It was not my consultant's drug of choice but I took it for a month for the trial. I was 55 & I thought I was dying. My BP was so low I kept falling etc. 9 yrs on I have been taking it for around a year with Requip & during those 9 yrs I' ve tried many other meds & combinations. Some worked for a time, some didn't work together, some didn't work at all & some caused awful side-effects. It's the classic PD dilemma.

I have been taking sinemet for 8 years. I also have just recently ( 7 months ago ) developed a severe pain syndrome. I notice if I take a half a sinemet more often this seems to help the pain. Has any one else had problems with pain ?

My husband's pain is caused by Parkinson's and we have found that it is an early indicator of need to increase the dose of whatever drug he has been on. Quite a handy marker, as long as it goes away again! Not enough people know that pain might be a Parkinson's symptom, including medics.

What type of pain and where? I have severe muscle pain in my hamstring muscles. My neurologist asked me if I have muscle pain or muscle cramps (there is a big difference in the treatment of each). Muscle cramps are treated by physical therapy, and muscle pain is treated by medication and insuring you are getting enough potassium and magnesium. I had both. It took about two months of taking Sinemet before the pain and stiffness started to subside. I am still stiff in the morning making it difficult to walk normal, and have muscle pain at bedtime making it hard to fall asleep. I visited a "Movement Disorder Specialist" who put me on Sinemet Extended Release, and things are much better. I guess if I exercised more, I would feel even better.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions....I find that if I take one half of a sinemet I sometimes have less pain. Magic Max, I'm very curious about the difference between muscle pain and muscle cramps. My episodes of pain usually start with a strong stabbing feeling near a joint. Then it feels like some thing is reaming out the inside of my muscles and I get very weak and tired. This can last as long as 10 days. My neurologist says it's not the PD,, The rheumatologist says it's a rare type of arthritis but low doses of prednisone do not work. I am at my wits end.
