Dehydration

Does anyone have problems with dehydration? I never had a problem till I had PD.

I know it makes me very tired. I try to drink often for awhile and then slowly forget. I need to get back to drink more water.

Thanks, I have gotten tired of just water.

Went off of soda when I read that diet soda could cause neurologic problems.

im not sure it sparkling water is but sodas can be bad. try plain water and mix with juices..i like to mix juices and water because some juices upset my stomach so it delutes it and your getting your water intake and vitamins from the juice. all your berry juices have lots of antioxidants.. i agree that sodas are really bad..

Hi -

I get dehydrated often (for sure whenever I see my neurologist as he always comments on it), Anyhow - he said anything counts, as long as you're keeping liquid down. And like LizaJane, it helps eliminate some of the headache pain. And to address the diet soda issue - it's most likely the aspartame issue in sugar free drinks. The vitamen waters (which I love and swear by them that they boost my energy - I like the SoBe Life water best and the VitaminWater next. They aren't sugary or 'kool-aidy' tasting.

It's strange, - I woke up this morning thinking about this! I will try some of your ideas , xx

Dehydration is more than just water, particularly electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, sodium, etc. If these get too low you wake up one morning unable to walk. Of course you assume it is PD and so does everyone else.

reverett Where do you get electrolytes from?

you can get them from sports drinks, but the natural way is from water, salt and citrus fruits.

I used to love a cup of coffee but I switched to green tea because it has healing qualities. I wish there was something that provided "curing" qualities.

Why did you stop coffee Joealt.? I thought it could have positive benefits for people with pd.

This article raises some interesting issues. reuters.com/article/2010/09...

Amen, Joealt!

How will I know if I am dehydrated? I have just found I have type 2 diabetes so when I feel rotten don't know what is to blame. Could be dehydrated and blaming wrong illness.

Some days don't feel too bad and others rotten. More of the good days needed, please. Try to drink green tea, but don't really like it. Must try harder.

I've read where you need drink about 8 glass a day.

Court, I found this link: mayoclinic.com/health/water...

Hope it is helpful.

Have you tried drinking with a straw I find my husband is more able to swallow and helps him drink more . . Dehydration makes you feel cold can affect balance and heart rythym , not nice at all .. . They do say as you get older you lose the abiltiy to drink as often .. I am always prompting my husband . ( although he calls it nagging lol )

I have the same problem my doctor says most of the problem is the medication. Just keep drinking as much as you can. your body needs it . and when it has what it needs you do feel a little better.
