First I want to apologize for not responding to all my blog post comments. My iPad won't keep my signed in for some reason.
I come here this morning kind of scared to be completely honest with you. I have had weakness with this disease but this has been different. It started yesterday. Feeling like really weak w a very weird sensation almost like there is no strength or nothing there. It's in both legs but more in left leg and left arm. It's hard to explain almost feels numb but not... Best way to explain is like when your drunk and extremities don't feel like they are there. Should I be worry? Do you think it's a park thing too? Thanks!!

I DONT KNOW IF IT IS APARKIE THING - ALL I KNOW IS THAT I FEEL THE SAME, IN AS MUCH AS THAT I HAVE NO STRNGTH IN MY LEGS ANY MORE - IF I WERE YOU I WOULD GET IT CHECKED
Often times "go to the ER" is a way to get the patient out of the doctor's hair so he/she can tend to other business/work. You go to the ER and if they keep you there is a chance they won't keep up on your meds at the right times. You describe feelings I have had as well. Wish PD would be cured. Dennis
I feel the same way too. It's so hard to even lift my arms and legs. It's like all my strength is gone some times. I also know what you mean about numbness. .I think it's part of PD,but I'd check with. your doctor..
I believe that weakness is indeed a symptom of PD as it progresses. It makes sense as we get stiffer and feel less like using all the muscles. I have heard that Tai Chi has been beneficial for several reasons and am planning on trying that out to regain some strength and balance. I'm hoping!
My legs fell like lead weights sometimes. I have started doing 2 miles a day on a treadmill and this has helped. I am more on being tired all the time. Some days are worse than others and I hope that I am not having to work that day. My doctor keeps adjusting my meds and that seems to helping.
I don't have the weakness you discuss - at least, not yet. But tiredness. I sure do have that. Don't feel like doing anything, I couldn't walk a mile if I had to. I did walk a short distance yesterday, and very slowly with difficulty. Was glad to get back to my car. I don't see how so many of you walk so much!
Yes, I have had this problem for over a year and had it for several tears before that in a milder form that I mistook for PD. Over the last year I have figured mine out with little help from the docs. Keep that in mind as you read on. This is not medical advice.
Mine is a problem with keepimg potassium levels in the blood stable and leads to low levels - a state called hypokalemia. And it is one of the rare but known side effects of our meds, particularly ldopa/cardopa. If you pee a lot as I do, the problem is worsened because even more potassium is lost, as well as B-vitamins. And potassium and Bs are vital for nerve and muscle function.
It is scary as hell, too! Lying in the floor too weak to crawl? Collapsed in a chair too weak to weak to type? No fun. It is like you are dying.
I have had my GP check my potassium four times in the last 16 months and it came in at low normal. each time. 3.4 to 3.6 despite heavy supplementation. Normal is 3.5 BTW.
You see a lot of warnings about taking potassium and that too much can kill you. In theory it could but it is not that simple. My GP explained that if your kidneys are working well then you are going to self-regulate.
You should also be careful if you are using certain blood pressure meds that can raise potassium. But, again, I am taking two of those without change.
Potassium is available in different forms and they each su[[;y their own dose. By this I mean that 90 mg of potassium chloride is not the same as 90 mg of potassium gluconate. They use a unit abbreviated "mEq" I am taking tablets of potassium gluconate at 550 mg which yields about 6 mEq per tablet. I am taking 12 tablets per day or about 72 mEq. and I am much better but far from healed. I intend to go to an endocrinologist latrer this year because there are several hormonal problems that can cause it too. I hope this helped.
