I had minor gait freezing, but really severe tremors. My neuro said DBS would help tremors, but not gait freezing (or my swallowing problem). However, as soon as I had DBS, the gait freezing and swallowing probs disappeared.

I am so interested in DBS for myself but my neuro at Yale told me that it would not help with my problems! i get stuck, gait freezing, and my toes curl under! I have no tremors. My doctor told me that my diagnosis is dystonia rather than PD and DBS doesn't help that!!

It might be worth your while to check with the company Medtronic's and see what they say. I realize that their job is to sell the product but they wouldn't sell it without factual information.

DBS / STN Surgery 4/22/2013. I get powered up in a week; can't wait. I'll let you know how it helps.
