Does anyone know if there's ANY connection between TIA's(mini-strokes!) and parkinsons?

Hi, My original Dx was TIA or mini stroke. i suppose that as a stroke of any kind can lead to brain cell death so if that affects the substantia negra area of the brain it could lead to parkinsons. Only a theory though. I am not medically qualified.

I have had a TIA in my left eye but I don't know of a connection to Parkinsons.

Thanks for your help

.It's just that I started with tia's (left-side)about 9yrs ago, I was getting them very regular. They stopped for approx 1yr and that was when tremor started (left-hand) as the tremor got worse I was dx with pd !!!

Lately I've started with tia's (not told gp,yet) but they feel different this time,I think I'm not wanting any more bad news about my health--or should I say lack of health....

No link with tia's and PD. Tia's should be treated as an emergency and I recomend A and E or at least GP urgently - Risk of full stroke is increased with TIA's. If you are having TIA's then a few tests may confirm this and medication maybe given. There is no reason why a person with PD cant have Tia's or strokes but all should be treated as an emergency.

Thanks Forest,

I know exactly what you're saying, but past experience of a&e is that the tia's wore of either before I got there or whilst I was there, then to be told I'm ok and sent home! I did tell my gp a few yrs ago although I was still having them I don't see the point of attending a&e!!

I must admit that i can be rather acronimically challenged, but I have no idea of A & E means.

I do however agree with everything else posted by forest.

I had one TIA a about 4 years ago. My neurologist coincidentally happened to be at the hospital when I arrived at the emergency room. One thing she'd assured me about and which i have also have since read in my research...that there is not a known connection between TIA's and PD.

Hi srarndt,

A&E means accident & emergency, I too agree with Forest

It's just that I get the feeling they (a&e) think I'm kidding.

The main hospital is 35-40 miles away, I've been before but left stranded until I can get someone to come for me, because as I said often they wear of before I reach local a&e.

Hi nene

I have found mention of low Blood Pressure and TIA's . As Low blood pressure can be associated with Parkinsons it might be an interesting area to explore.

Just found you by accident as researching my coordination symptons when stressed & possible genetic conditions .Dystonia has raised its head.

My late Mother had very severe multi infart dementia and I also have utis acute 3 weekly plus .I have had urological research x2 suspect the latest is of the kind wait and see Guinea pig ? Also only MD research was for educational [ MA] dyspraxia and was same old test for the alzheimers.

Originally before Thatchers Cuts spina bifida occulta was implicated and followed up on fatty liver, scarred kidneys petit mal , neurogenic bladder one ureter too many [ reflux] & incontinence partial . Yet have not connected or coordinated the fainting daily on eating as supposedly all heart tests OK, yet became fatal? heart attack 12yrs ago revived with an angioplasty, yet still the classic symptons are ignored .

This year the heart failure symptons[ still ignored] are still affecting movement Dukes Analysis and has proved to be pulmonary hypertension this was on fitting yet another holter monitor implant.I have also had acute oedema ignored for 3 yrs so now become lipo - lymphoedema .Only just got diuretics & refusing only treatment suggested by NICE liposuction as no provision.

By the way mylate Mother had hyperparathyoidism/hypercalcemia , low thyroid , couldn't speak or swallow yet also had polymyalgia rhematica.

Ihave also found my preventative medication interaction causing bad side effects especially statins Had Raynauds diagnosed which went when stopped a particular statin.

What came first the chicken or the egg? Surely symptons should be at the heart of research from square one ?

Skybluepink, not too clear exactly what you are saying but for Fainting daily on eating check out post prandial hypotension.
