After 5 years of being told I had pulled ligaments or had fluid on the ankle it turns out low and behold i have arthritis in most parts of my feet and ankles.
My question is that one option is to fuse the bones but both ankle so will be off my feet for weeks in plaster ? or as they are suggesting we try injections which I hear are not pleasant don't always work and cause more pain to start with ?
So can anyone share their experience before I jump in feet first ?🦶🦶
okay a bit of my background that might point you. I’ve had arthritis for a long time mostly hands and feet. My big toes are almost entirely unbending now, I was told this would happen 25 years ago and this has proved to be true.
I have seen chiropodists.
I saw a physiotherapist for exercises etc and asked if I should also been seen by physio who specialises in feet. My physio said that I could see him if I wanted but what he would do would be the following:
- advise me whether an op would be one way to go
- advise me on insoles
I decided not to see him, but what I already do is:
- wear insoles. I used to get them specially fitted but these are expensive and are no better than ones you can pick up in Superdrug.
- take glucosamine with chondroitin and also turmeric.
- take painkillers
Please go to the website of the various specialist charities. Start with Versus Arthritis.
There are many supplements you can take. None of them have very good research done on them because some help some people and some don’t. My husband takes magnesium. Does nothing for me! Other people say turmeric must be with black pepper. Some people say rosehip.
my husband had ankle joints fused 9years ago and now walks pain free.Steroid injections didn't work for him.Well worth being off your feet for a while and usicrutchedng
