First Round of Methotrexate ✅

I split the 6 pills, 2 at breakfast, then 2 at dinner and then the final 2 the next morning. I'm hoping it's ok that I did it that way because I didn't actually ask my doctor, just went with the general consensus that this was how people were avoiding nasty side effects. I did have some mild nausea and loss of appetite. On the night of the second day I felt a bit achy and tired and would sometimes feel too hot or too cold. A bit achy today as well, but I can live with this level of discomfort. Thanks to those of you who posted about splitting doses - it was very helpful!

Keeping you in my thoughts & prayers. I hope you have a better outcome than I did. But just an FYI you're suppose to take all 6 pills at once as you can't eat 2 hours before nor 2 hours after taking it. That's why I ended up switching to the injection. Try to stay positive as it did put me in remition for a while I just couldn't handle the side effects and all the meds they piled on me. Again keeping you in my prayers!

All 3 of my rheumies suggested splitting the dose within a 24hr period. You are brilliant for doing this. Splitting the dose of mtx pills makes side effects easier to deal with. Also splitting the dose of mtx pills in a 24hour period allows your body to better absorb the medication. If you find that splitting the dose of mtx pills annoying, then injecting mtx is the way to go.

Welcome to this site. I look forewards to chatting with you.

So, I've been on mtx since I was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago. I started off on 6 pills & my mouth kept breaking out with mouth sores all the time. My rheumatologist never suggested breaking my dose up over a 24 hour period he just cut me back to 3 pills instead. I also take folic acid to help with the side affects of it. I still fight mouth sores off & on with it.

How come your rheumatologist doesn't put you on injections? Injections bypass your mouth & stomach. Injections go right into your blood stream. No more mouth sores, upset stomach or gas.

I'm not sure. Probably because I'm on the Enbrel injections.

Most people say they have no side effects at all with the Mtx injections. Thanks for responding!
