Hi. My name is Penny 66. What time do you think is the best time to take the methotrexate and folic acid to avoid stomach upset. I am starting it as soon as soon I have no more infection in my right pinky.

Well ! Penny ..MY doctor advised me to pick one day out of the week,to take the methotrexate. When I take it on that day do not take the folic along with it. So I take my folic acid 6days a week then I take methotreaxte 1day6pills at once at Night.

I haven't had any side effects... been on it sense Nov..he had me on prednisone at first...I told him that I didn't like the side affects so he asked me to choose which meds after he gave me paperback information on each. I chose Methotrexate. #happy😉 ..

I take Prilosec every morning first thing on an empty stomach then take my folic acid after that. Then after breakfast I take my other Meds. I take MTX on Fridays after dinner, 6 pills at a time. I also take leucovorin 12 hours after the MTX to prevent mouth sores from the MTX. It's always take something to prevent side effects from something else.

I take the folic acid about 8 am and the methotrexate about 10 am (3 tabs) and aboout 2 pm (4 tabs). I have never had any stomach upset associated with using this approach.

Methotrexate and folic acid cannot be taken in the same day!!

Methotrexate is a very poisonous medication, all of us know this. So we must take this medication after a full stomach. It will damage our skin if in contact hence we should not use our hands to hold this medicine.

My doctor gave me a separate cup to keep the methotrexate and told me to keep some water in my mouth first then throw the methotrexate in and swallow them immediately to avoid contact with my skin. She suggested to take the medication at night to avoid any bad feeling. However, I am okay with the medicine so far.

Methotrexate will interact with folic acid, if you take them in the same day, the methotrexate will not work anymore. Please bear in mind of this.
