Holiday, Race 4 Life and back to week 8...

OK, so I was due to run my R4L before my summer holiday and it would've been the start of week 9 for me but due to bad weather it was postponed.

I came home from having a very relaxing 2 weeks in Portugal having done no exercise, except for a bit of swimming and walking, to find the new date for the run was in 2 days time!

Mmmm, was hoing to be able to run the majority of the 5k but felt rather deflated/annoyed that I wouldn't be able to as I'd had a 2 week break (plus lots of lovely food and drink).

It was very hot and the course was rather more cross-country than I remember from previous years... I ran through long wet grass, up and down hills, through a muddy paddock and also through tears (I blame kelly Clarkson and her 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger').

I started way to fast and got a stitch that just wouldn't shift, so I walked briskly, had a word with myself and concentrated on my 'Laura' breathing. Once I'd got myself back in the 'zone' I found I could start running again, albeit at a much more realistic pace.

Spurred on at the sight of my Husband and Son waving like maniacs I found the energy to speed up as I approached the finish line - I couldn't believe I'd managed to complete the 5K in 34mins 52secs!!! Was rather chuffed with myself as all my training has been on a treadmill that has a max speed of 6.2kph!!!

I've gone back to W8R1 today and managed it despite the still slightly tender legs! Once I've graduated I'm going to venture outside...

Sorry for the long blog but it's hard explaining to non-running friends the feeling of achieving something like this, thank you for reading!

Well done - that certainly sounded like a challenge, especially after a 2 week break. Good luck for your next run :)
