R6 and 4 weeks pregnant

Hi all

I started c25k and was really enjoying it - much to my surprise! I’ve been so inactive this year and I mean inactive - suffered with depression due to baby loss in April and then the pandemic didn’t help.

Anyway - fast forward to now I’m on r6 and I find out I’m 4 weeks preggo. Excellent news however the same day (weirdly or linked??) my knees begin to hurt so bad I can’t run on them. So did a 3mile walk and even that hurts. Maybe I’m pushing myself too hard?

Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

X

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you for your response, albeit a canned one.

Hi kamalo! It could definitely be that you're pushing yourself a bit too hard. When you're running, you should make sure that you're not running so fast that you're out of breath - you should still be able to have a normal conversation through most of it. I obviously don't know how much you weigh but if you are bigger, that could have an impact on your knees especially while running. Try doing some walking until knees feel a bit better, and then maybe try another run to see how it goes? Don't push yourself though, and congrats! :) xx

Ah thank you so much for your response 😍 I’m a solid unit as my husband calls

Me hahaha! Tall and carrying a bit of extra weight for sure so I think you’re right I pushed myself too hard. I thought I was going too slow but maybe not?

And thank you!

Not an expert but I believe that one of the effects of pregnancy is a softening of the ligaments so it could be hormonal, see if you can have a chat with a midwife! Many congratulations it’s so often the way that when we take our mind off having a baby the magic happens. Keep walking and perhaps have a look at the Japanese slow running, I’m not pregnant but at 64 sometimes get aches and pains and I find a few runs using this technique really helps 😀
