Heel first

During each run on Couch to 5K the commentater stresses that we should make contact with the heel first. This is contrary to what I've always been taught. I was fitted for some new and excellent trainers recently by a guy who knew his stuff. The fitting included a run on a treadmill which was videoed and helped find the right trainers. He stressed that I should try to run toes first to cushion the shock. Who is right and why?

You will find this mentioned in the guide to the plan and I agree with your shoe fitter.

Heelstrike is considered the least favourable form of footstrike, but is also the most common amongst recreational runners.

Many thanks for a swift response, IT, I think I'll stick with what I've always been taught then.

Absolutely wrong for them to recommend heel strike.
