Welcome.

The best way to start would be to read this post before lacing up your shoes. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Then, once you have the knowledge it contains, the next move is to get out there and hit the start button on the app.

You can do this... enjoy your journey.

The first thing I did, because I was terrified of hurting my knees, was to run 4 separate one minutes while out for a walk, to make sure I had no serious after effects. That convinced me to get started, so then, as advised above, it was just a case of hitting "start" and telling myself to stop worrying about what people might think!

Coincidentally I started by going for walks before starting this program and after reading the guide have noticed that it is recommended that you can walk briskly for 30 minutes first to be in the best place to start.

I’m about to finish week 4 and haven’t had to repeat any runs yet. I’m significantly overweight (very obese actually) and 41, but have no underlying health conditions and was walking for 60-90 minutes (5-7k) 3 times a week for a month before I started the program.

Load the app. Headphones on.

Put your shoes on. Out the door.

Press GO on the app.

I bought some decent running daps. As time’s gone on I’ve acquired more running clothes, ear phones, etc.

I just pressed go for week 1 and went for it. Now on week 7 with run 2 next. 👍

Just one thing for a total beginner. Many people have reported problems with the app freezing mid session, which could be a total put-off for you. I downloaded the original podcasts with Laura, you can put them on a phone, iPod or MP3 player. You do get Laura's choice of music which might not be to your taste, but I found the beat just right to get me going, and Laura keeps popping in with motivational comments. You can always move on to the app and play your own music once you have got started on the programme. Good Luck!
