Running for sanity

I haven’t run or entered into any kind of sporty activity since 2003. Earlier this year I met who I hoped would be my forever lady. Sadly as of the 22nd of December that Hope was taken away from me when she ended the relationship. I started my couch to 5 K in July and completed my two weeks which I enjoyed. I now find myself on a mission to complete the training & today, 4 months later completed run one week three. Is there anyone else running to forget?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I would suggest running for the here and now of it, the being in the present, alive and feeling it.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks 😊 are there local groups?

Depends where you are. Most people looking for a group put up a post giving a general idea of where they are and asking about groups, and local people will get back to them. A lot of folk get involved in Parkrun once they’re further through the programme: you might like to check out their website and contact your local group too. Hope you find something soon 🏃‍♀️

So sorry to hear that you've had a tough time lately. You might actually find that running helps you to remember a few things - that you are stronger than you realise, and that it is within you to make positive, incredible changes to your life.

I wish you every success. Let us know how you're getting on.

It’s funny but you’d think that with age comes immunity to hurt 😊 I’m a positive person so I’ll get there eventually. Thank you for your very positive post😊

Well run two week three in the bag, my legs are feeling it a bit but I’ll take that as a good sign. Now am I being naughty? I finished my warm down walk but it was further away from home this week so I jogged the rest of the way home, only about 250 yards or so is that okay? I hope everyone is enjoying their journey I’m still not out of the woods but, enjoying the run 🏃‍♂️😊

I added in a bit extra on the same run, I was further from home than I had planned so did an extra 3 minutes before the cool down walk. I was told off (very politely) by a few on here, but it is so tempting because that week was quite easy. Make sure you don’t do too much extra and always warm down at the end. Well done though 🙌🏻

Welcome Harry. Oh break ups are just so awful. I admire you for getting up and out there to run - when I was in your position I wouldn’t have had the strength. Good luck with your running and be kind to yourself.

People run for many different reasons. Gives me a great feeling of freedom, and strangely relaxing. I think you'll find you are stronger and more resiliant as you progress. Life will be different, and likely you will have a new outlook on life. Enjoy your running. 🙂🌻

Well that’s it week three done 😊🎉🏃‍♂️ loved it. Week four starts on Wednesday but I’m back to work. My problem is I live in an unlit unpaved village which is a bit of a rat run dark when I leave, dark when I return, need to sort some lights out I reckon.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks, well week 4 & 5 are done and I’m now on week 6 run 3 this Saturday, so to everyone starting out or worried about week 3, just as I was, you can do it, I won’t say it’s easy but, you can do it 👍😊

So, I’m still running to forget, however I’m now on Week 9 run 3. And am running 5k in under 30 mins(27.35 pb) I did my first park run last Saturday and managed a 30 min 5k I now intend to beat that time & maybe move on to 10 k I’m naturally Quite lazy and combined with emotional turmoil this is huge for me, so onwards & upwards. If anyone reads this who’s just starting or doubting themselves, keep at it.👍😎
