Hi, following a previous thread I'd like some advise. I'm 68, I've down loaded the 'couch to 5k' app does my age change how I use the app?

It shouldn’t... age isn’t the issue for us, it’s fitness. It may be harder for you than an 18 year old, but I guarantee there’s 18 year olds out there struggling with this and 68 year olds finding it pretty easy. You can do this. Advice for everyone is to go slow and steady. There was a guy in the radio the other week... one of 25 people with 500+ parkruns completed... 82 years old, started running in his 70s.

Hello.

I'm 53 and a lorry driver. When I started it took me over the 9 weeks as some weeks I failed a wee bit. The 9 weeks is just a guide.

The idea is to do it at your own pace. I'd doesn't matter how long it takes. Just take it easy and slowly and you'll soon build up.

Best of luck and keep us posted how you get on☺️👍

Hi, I've just reached 67 (yesterday) and completed c25k last Thursday. The hardest thing I found is making the tech work properly, there's never a 10 year old around when you need help.

I started week 1 thinking "run for 1 minute? piece of cake". 6 minutes later, "I'm gonna have to give up the cake". So next time out, go slower, much slower. Cracked it!

Take plenty of hydration every day, not just run days. Take at least 1 rest day between runs. Just follow the guidelines and you'll be fine.

If you have any particular health issues, such as osteoporosis, you may need medical advice - but this is true of anyone at any age.

We currently have a couple of members who did the programme at about 74 years of age, but you won't see them a lot on this forum because they moved on to the 10K one. Let that encourage you :) . Good luck! Oh - and read the FAQ, which is also recommended at any age :)

It leads to amazing things 👍

you only go very steadily. The only idea is to finish each session 😃

Read the programme notes, on the sticky, as it answers most of the FAQ’s👍

At age 66 I just followed the app, but found that the odd strain which appeared around week 7 meant that I had to rest and then go back a couple of weeks. It worked! I now vary between running 5k(which takes me just over 36 minutes) and running a bit faster for 30 minutes (but not making 5k). Other factors such as medical conditions, basic levels of fitness and existing activity levels apply to all starters. I haven’t found that age is an issue in itself. I am realistic about what I can achieve. I plan to go for runs of increasing length, but it will take time to get there. People have said to me “listen to your body” and that is good advice. Don’t push yourself too hard and do get checked out if you have any health concerns.
