I wondered what counts as a proper warm up. Through the whole thing I've done the proper 5 minutes warm up and cool down followed by stretches. It has been easy through the heatwave. My very last run on week 9 is the only time it rained and was windy and quite frankly I was really cold until I started running. I wondered if the fact that I've briskly walked 2 miles earlier in the day and then for a few minutes to get to the car before a 20 minute drive to my run destination counts as a warm up or does it have to be just immediately before the run? I'm just thinking to the months ahead and how I'm going to cope with the weather. My body thermostat seems to be broken and I am always either freezing or sweating. When cold I get dead hands and mad shivers pretty much straight away. Easy enough to cope with out on epic walks on the moors as I'm always well wrapped up and have lots of spare gear in a rucksack and never slow down or stop! I think I need to properly decide how to go about this as I definitely want to keep up the running in all weather. I already thought if I was running from home I could do warm up going up and down stairs and start the run as soon as I leave the house! What does everyone else do and how do you cope with the temperature changes? Thanks!

The warmup walk is supposed to be quite fast (in walking terms) so hopefully you needn't get too cold if you're walking fast enough. But I, too, would be interested to know how long you can safely leave after a warmup before starting a run - I'm thinking of parkruns etc where there is a little bit of standing about waiting for the start, and I imagine at larger events that gets magnified.

You’ll be fine. I thought I would surely die. I didn’t. You acclimatise quick. I couldn’t believe how quick I bought a run fleece but soon peeled it off and have never worn it since. The lightweight modern run fabrics are great and are cheap enough As are hats and gloves
In cold weather I warm up in the house first. I do a routine in the Hall once I have my cold weather running gear on. It takes about ten minutes and then I head out for my brisk warm up walk. I always do that, or even longer. If I know I am running I keep moving once i’m Up out of bed If you take the car you still need to do the brisk warm up walk . More is always better I think. Same afterwards. I do a stretch out walk before heading home or going to the car, sometimes for 2kms or so. Depends where I finish up
I always take my run jacket and have something to cover my head. In winter I take gloves. If I go in the car I have a warm jacket I always think if the car breaks down I want warm clothes 🙂. Also after a run in cold weather a warm jacket and/or dry warmer leggings etc is a boon You can take a hot drink as well if taking the car
I run in all weathers but not alone on the fells or moors or anything. That requires a higher level of gear and prep. I do run alone on the trails but they’re near civilisation and are not extreme terrain as mountain, moor or fell. I now take my phone 🙂🏃♀️
