Are you not a Harry Potter fan?

It means people who do not share our special skills - ie non-runners.

Thank you for enlightening us. I thought it meant feral yoofs! (I'm not a Harry Potter aficionado either!) :) :)

Could easily be feral yoofs of course!

I love how a Harry Potterism has ported nicely over to running! :D

Oh! Thanks for that. Harry Potter has never appealed to me.

I had a comment from a muggle on today's run. An oldish guy on a push bike rode past me and said 'that looks like hard work'. I confirmed it was and asked him for a tan on his bike :)

Tan = To catch a lift on someone’s bike, sitting on the crossbar or seat while they pedal standing up.

Surely that's a croggie, Paul. :)

I'm from Yorkshire and it was definitely a croggie when I was a kid x

AncientMum profile image

Why do I get the feeling a row about regional differences is about to erupt?! If we get onto breadcakes, and more importantly, fishcakes, I'm keeping out of it! That's one regional difference I get quite vociferous about! :D

AncientMum profile image
AncientMumGraduate in reply to Miles_Yonder

Hahaha :D A Fishcake's a fish cake isn't it? I'm not getting into the great bread cake, barm cake, bap debate though:)

Miles_Yonder profile image
Miles_YonderGraduate in reply to AncientMum

Well here a fishcake is the following: slab of potato. Fish. Sandwiched in by another slab of potato. Deep fried. That's a fishcake, not these mashed potato and fish in breadcrumbs efforts! Not that I've had one in a while, mind!

It's a breadcake! Though bap is acceptable. :D

:-) Does your chippy do scallops ? That is sliced potatoes, then deep fried, they are luvvly :-) I wonder if anyone here has tried a deep fried Mars Bar or Deep fried Creme Egg ? I just cant imagine what they taste like ? Mind you, we are far too healthy on here to even consider trying one :-) xxx

Miles_Yonder profile image

Yes, scallops are delicious! I'm not a huge fan of chips. When I used to frequent chip shops I'd have a fishcake, scallop and scraps. :-) I've always been intrigued by deep fried Creme Eggs but never had one. I recall a chippy in Doncaster selling them, but I never had one.

Well my dinner has just consisted of a Sheffield/Yorkshire Fishcake and scraps (or scrapings as I would call them!) the fish cakes are my new favourite thing. The peas, with mint sauce, were apparently the best the OH has tasted. We are currently in Ripon, where we have also found our first

Booths of this years trip :) happy days.

My mum told me a story that when she first arrived in England she went to the bakers and asked for a pan. The shop assistant directed her to the ironmonger down the road.

No she said the pan loaves on the shelf behind !

Haha your poor mum. English is an international language but with a hundred different regional variations for everything. :)
