Hi Joaney, welcome to the forum.

Well, you are ahead of me - I'll be out later today to run 25 minutes but I'll not get to 5k (yet!).

When there have been similar questions asked here, the answer is 'Intervals' and 'Fartlek'. You can search on the forum, or on the web, but your body needs to gradually get used to running faster over shorter distances. Maybe you already already run and then 'spot' an uncoming landmark and increase your speed until you reach it. Fartlek is a more rigorous approach to this.

There are many folks on this site who aspire to 29:15 and so you are already quick by our standards. Let us know your progress & good luck.

Can't really advise on how to run quicker (MarkyD has gave some good advice) but welcome to the forum :)

I'm hoping to reach 5k in 30 minutes by this Sunday so I should be asking you for advice ;)

The more miles you get on the clock the faster you will become as your musculature and cardio vascular system improve. Don't do all your runs at a fast pace though. If you extend your endurance or distance, the advised amount is 10% per week, then do it on one run per week and go slower. Look at this runnersworld.co.uk/general/... it is very helpful in working out how fast to run. As others have said, intervals and fartlek on your other two runs, of say 5k, will help you understand how your body reacts to running at different speeds. Longer runs definitely work though. Parkrun (parkrun.com) is also great for pushing you to a PB and is a wonderful, free, worldwide event.

Good luck. Tell us how you get on.

As IT suggests, try increasing your distance on one run a week - but make sure this is at an easy pace (so you could talk).

The other 2 runs in the week should be based on an easy pace with fast intervals in at least one of them - have you tried the speed podcast? You could do the stamina (or stepping stones) podcast for your 3rd run of the week. You could also try some hill training, which is great for your stamina but not so good for your ego at the time or posting a personal best on that run.

You've got a great starting point there with under 30 minutes. Please don't run flat out on every run, but do go for a pb every now and then, and try to enjoy your running as much as the statistics.

Welcome... And well done that's a great time... Have you tried the speed podcast? It really got my time down, and also increasing to longer runs helps... Good luck :)

I have an interval app on my phone - C25k Forever - that I plan on using when I am through with this program.
