I'm about to try w5r3. How far did you go? I'm doing slow jog but beginning to wonder if I'm too slow for standard progress?

A slow jog is fine. By the time I was on week five lads walking were still passing me! You're out there running which is important and your speed will improve as you progress, or after you graduate. There are very very few who can run 5k in 30 minutes when they graduate and I took nearly 40 minutes. :)

Same here, get the time up then maybe think about speeding up after graduation. But still really good health benefits by slow jogging.

I don't think there's any such thing as standard progress. In my experience, During the 9 week programme, it mattered more that I got out there and developed the habit of running. Someone told me you have to do something 22 times before it becomes a habit. W5R3.... That's 15 so far, so you're nearly there! Don't worry about the speed, it will come in time.

I agree with the others. The big thing that you are doing is jogging...speed doesn't come into it now. You are overcoming the biggest hurdle which is jogging for an increasing mount of time, the rest will fall into place later. Keep at it, and you will see.

No such thing as too slow! You are out there and doing it. Just keep plugging away - you're doing great.

I'm on week 4 day 2, well that's what I ran last night (I'm doing C25K, which is very slightly different) and decided to speed up slightly for the first three runs (3 min, 4 min, 4 min). I kept up with my new speed, but then dropped back to a jog for the final 3 min ( as I was knackered!). Just do what you can do, if a slow jog suits you then stick with that. When you feel ready to increase your speed then do so. Well done for your achievement so far!

There are very few people who can muster up any real speed at this stage of the program - wishful thinking for them, perhaps? Realistically, a very slow jog is what most of us do and we don't cover a great deal of distance either. For the time being just enjoy getting out there and know that you are building up stamina with each run you do. Well done for getting to this stage of the programme and good luck with your final run of week 5. Best wishes.

No-one is too slow to do C25K - I was once overtaken by a guy on a mobility scooter! I'm now on week 9 and my speed is slowing improving but my focus has always been to keep running until Laura says stop, regardless of how slow I was going. Also, no matter how slow you go, you'll always be going quicker than if you were sat at home on the sofa. Keep going and good luck!

Mobility scooters can go quite fast and some people are a proper menace with them. Best wishes.

Hi Fitmo - just checked and on my first 20 minute run, I did 1.27 miles. Best of luck!

I am still oh so slow and I've done the C25k and done the Bridge to 10k and am moving on to longer distances. I'm still hauling myself round, just putting one foot in front of the other, but I get there! I envy those younger folks with their lolloping strides and fast pace but it aint gonna happen so I just plod on. I have no ambition other than to get healthy and keep fit

I love it though, and just can't stop now I've started. I hope you find the same thing as it's seriously addictive

Happy running

NHS C25K is about maintaining a running motion for a specified period of time. I don't go fast enough for some definitions of a jog let alone a run. However, to me, it's running and I've been doing it regularly for 2 years, no injuries and much pleasure.

We all know exactly how you feel. Slow is good, a light jog achieving the 20 minutes non stop is asked of you at this point and you will do it. I started reading post graduate posts too early and whilst it was motivating I couldn't help worrying that I was never going to do 5k or a 10k and they seemed all so advanced. What I realised after posting myself, we all had similar misgivings and their support was tremendous. You could not get a more supportive group and we (I speak on behalf of all the lovely people here!) will be with you all the way. Good luck on your run 3 you will feel amazing after! :)

I think that you have missed the irony that I was intending. I think that probably most or all of us here run "quite slow" ( well, at least when compared to the currrent World Champion :) ) -- but we are all running faster than our next door neighbour couch potato :)

Well said Alibye. I've had to bite my own tongue when I've read some of the posts this chap has written just to have a go at someone.
