I just finished W2D2 and have had knee pain for the last week. It's the inner knee. Is this normal? I'm 52. Been using knee braces.

I'd be tempted to seek professional advice. Rule of thumb, rest for a couple of extra days and try again. if it still hurts rest a week or so and try again. If it still hurts go to the doctor.

Is the pain there all the time? Have you had knee probs before? If so it's probably worth going to get it checked out. Many other folk here have done that and been relieved to be told there is no damage just getting used to the new exercise.

I had inner knee pain that started in week 2 and went away after run 1 week4. It was never agony and I kind of knew I hadn't injured myself. But it was painful, especially when I massaged the area with my fingers - but that did relieve the pain. It also eased off if I left 2 days between runs. ( so I didn't go to the doctor).

I had got a pair of running shoes fitted for overpronation and wondered if I had been fitted with the wrong shoes, but in the end I got used to them. I

think it was my muscles or tendons geeing bruised and used. I graduated about 5 weeks ago and now run 5k three times a week and have had no knee problems whatsoever - and I am 56 :)

Good luck,

Firstly, congrats for starting running.

Secondly, a question ~ what running shoes do you wear, and have you been for a gait analysis? If you haven't, I would urge you to pop-along to a good running shop and get one done. This will at least let you know if you are in the right sort of shoes.

I would also recommend a longer rest session, folowed by running with a support, such as a Vulkan. I found these really helpful.

Good luck, and happy running

I had knee pain that started on week 4 day 3 in my rt knee. I had never had knee problems before. I wanted to move on so badly to wk 5- so I tried running at a highschool track with a softer surface- even though the one knee still hurt a bit. Not long into the run, the other knee started hurting too! I never should have kept running that day- my knees were killing me and they felt so unstable, I had a hard time walking naturally. So for 3 weeks I didn't even do much walking. The discomfort gradually went away. I was so disappointed that I might not be able to continue with the program! I tried a couple short jogs while I walked my dog and it went ok so I went to a running store and got fitted for good shoes........ started again at wk 3 and never had a problem with my knees again :) I graduated about a month ago and can run 3.8 miles now- I am not very speedy, but that is alright.

I just turned 60 so I have some aches and pains here and there, but nothing bad. Anyway, there is hope for you- hope you don't have a worse problem!

I so appreciate all the help. I did have knee surgery back in the dark ages (70's.) I bought myself some New Balance trail running shoes (I live on a gravel road in the country.) I iced my knees today, which helped for awhile. I'm going to take your advice and just rest for longer than one day. I so want to complete this, but if it takes awhile longer, so be it. My last run was my slowest, and it wasn't due to being worn out, it was due to the pain when I ran. I am sure it's just because my knees getting used to the exercise. Otherwise, would it be the same on both knees? It hurts now just to walk. If it doesn't get better in the next couple weeks, I'll go to the doctor. Thank you for the help!
