Hidden , I do not know if the progression of all cases of CMT are the same, you should ask your doctor. I do know that my husband, my son and my husbands cousin have all seen progression (worsening) over the years.

Hidden , everyone’s case is different. My husband had begun having operations, to correct for the deformed arches, in his teens and had lost lots of muscle mass also. My son kept his legs from loosing muscle mass and becoming weak by walking. He thumbed and walked around the US when he was younger. His only signs of the CMT when he was in his 20’s and early to mid 30’s was the high arches in his feet and weak ankles. As he got older, settled down to a job and family, he began loosing muscle mass. He is now 46 years old and has no feeling in his feet and little in his hands plus neurological pain in his feet and hands. He has numerous fracture signs, on his ankles, when they X-ray them. He was a chef but due to his ankles and not much feeling in his hands he can no longer safely work as a chef.

Exercise keeps the muscles stronger for longer. Do as much as you can to keep your feet healthy. If you have loss of feeling in your feet, check them daily, all over, for blisters or sores. We take our feet for granted but if you have loss of feeling you cannot. My husband lost 3 toes over the years because he did not check regularly and each became infected and had to be removed. He could have lost part of his foot. He is very vigilant now.

Get all the education about CMT that you can, from your doctors preferably, but if you get information online make sure you only get it from reputable sites.

Take care of your general health also!
