Stair lift

Hi everyone, I would like to have a stair lift installed, but I have no idea of the cost, my stairs have one bend, has anyone had one fitted, and would you share with me roughly the cost, some I can just get an idea as to cost, I don’t want to have lots of people around only to find out it is a lot more than I thought it would be

Mine was £2575 in 2010, and my stairs are a straight run of 14 steps..I had to get it installed quickly for my husband who was due to return from a long hospital stay - with very poor mobility (not CMT). Now I am alone and use it several times a day. I can't remember if the sum included the servicing contract. I approached Acorn and Stannah (the only firms I could remember the names of; I wasn't computer literate then) - Acorn seemed better organised and able to do the job sooner.

I was told that the Council would be likely to agree to instal one - but the waiting time was about 18 months!

I got Acorn to retain the second stair rail, which means the chair sticks out a bit - as I could still climb the stairs fairly easily using both hands then. I still climb them occasionally to try to keep mobile - but it is extremely difficult and tiring, and of course I can't carry anything.

There must be secondhand reconditioned stairlifts, but it's probably much harder to locate one that fits the bend.

Unfortunately disability is extremely expensive.

I hope this helps a little, and that you will be in less of a rush than I was, and able to find something suitable - and affordable.

Council fitted mine. Just had to pay a small amount towards it. They service it and do repairs. If it goes wrong they usually come out within a few hours to mend it.

Try the council first as i was assessed by social services then and got one fitted for no cost as my disability was too bad. They also done an assessment of the whole house and had grab rails fitted and steps modified to make it easier for me.
