Hi, Bawadry,

I didn't know what Curcumin was, so Googled it, and find it's what we call Turmeric. I have certainly never heard of it being any help for CMT (if it were, we'd all be hoovering it up by the bucketload).

But it is a lovely cheerful colour (provided you don't get it on your clothes) , and nice in curries.

I'd never heard of this either, but reading the link it sounds promising. Years ago I was talking to a doctor in barnstaple who suggested I use nourishing oils instead of handcream because it might bolster the myelin just like taking cod liver oil does. so I bought a base oil and some other nourishing oils like carrot, walnut, rosehip & mixed a few drops into a base oil & I put it on my hands several times a day and on my feet after the bath and my face 2/3 times a week. It makes my skin feel lovely, especially on my face it plumps up my 50 yr old cheeks and it smells lovely and is really nice to do. Our health food shop sells ready mixed oils. But its really difficult to say if it helps my CMT type 1A because its different every day anyway. I don't suppose there will be reasearch on it cos who is going to fund it? No drug company is going to make money out of it. But common sense says it must help since you don't have to only take medicines by mouth for benefit. And its a lovely, cheap, thing to do anyway.

Different plants are frequently showing their medicinal uses. Yew in cancer for example. Its interesting that curcuma is a member of the ginger family and ginger has a long history of use in nerve conditions.

There are 150 different types though. It would be lovely if a herbalist could give us a better guide as to which type and how to use it. Meanwhile I'll remember to use it in cooking, it tastes good and I'm sure I also read that it helps prevent cancer, because the active ingredients clear up toxins called free radicals in our bodies.

It has helped me. You haveto take several throughout the day. I take about 8 to 9. 2 to 3 capsules ever 4 hours

That's interesting, Turmericmiraclewoman.

In what way has it helped you?
