Arthritis after bug bite

Hello.

My partner got bitten on her ankle 2 years ago by an insect of some sort at a church garden party. Her leg swelled up a few days later and antibiotics cured the swelling. Since that time she has had worsening arthritis. She can hardly walk sometimes. She was tested for Lyme disease shortly after and it came back negative . The only thing that restored her to a normal life for 6 weeks were a series of steroid injections into the hips and shoulders ( the pain has spread to her entire body) . They have worn off and she is as bad as ever. She has an appointment on 1/3 but is worried she will be told she can't have injections again yet. She had been told they would last months and even probsbly never needed again. To all intents and purposes she is disabled. Please

1) has anyone suffered such a long- term reaction to an insect bite?

2) can steroid injections be obtained privately if necessary?

Many thanks
