Fed up of being in pain. Feel like my doctors don't believe in fibromyalgria. I asked if they would refer me to specialists and was told they'd only do as they are give me painkillers. Everyday is agony

29 years of pain
That's awful for you. I have had 5+ years of pain with sudden onset Rheumatoid Arthritis & it is so limiting. My GP is very good & local hospital Consultant, but with a raft of drugs I am rarely without pain, although my mobility has been improved. Good luck with getting your voice heard
I know it's not easy but be more forcefully with your GP. He is not the one with the pain! Ask for second opinions.
Sharan I know what your going through I have osteoarthritis ,stenosis and a coupe of discs in my lower back and cervical spondylosis I have seen two consultant's at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital in Birmingham for a second opinion I was under one of the pain doctors who was trialling electro acupuncture it did work but alas it finished I have been up all-night in pain you aint on your own
Don't give up. I have Fibromyalgia and know how you feel. If your GP isn't supportive then see a different GP until you find one who is. I had a GP who was very flippant about my symptoms even though I'm in terrible pain 24/7. Luckily I've now go two great GPs that I see and who are very supportive. Your GP should be referring you to a Consultant Rheumatologist- there isn't a cure for Fibromyalgia but a specialist will know more about treatments etc. Your GP should also refer you to a Pain Clinic(this will be at a Dr's surgery or hospital).
Good luck- and persevere, it'll pay off.

Thanks everyone. I know my next step in meds are Morphine based which is scary and my doc said we wud need to change my other meds as well which cud make everything a lot worse. I just don't know what to do. I work 5hrs a day at school so can't be off 🤔
Hi Sharan16 , So sorry to hear what a difficult time you are having at the moment. Have you thought about contacting FMA UK? They may be able to offer you some more support and advice painuk.org/members/charitie...
As others above have said if you are not happy with the support your current GP is offering or would like a second opinion of your treatment options you can request to see somebody else.
Take care.
My GP has switched me to morphine patches. They do take the edge off the pain and I'm allowed to supplement this with ibuprofen and co-codamol.
Don't be afraid of the morphine patches as I don't think they are any more worrying than the codeine that's in other meds.
You are entitled to a second opinion .... another GP in your practice may be more supportive.
All the best
Hi all, I was diagnosed last year as having fibromyalgia and hyper mobility. It took a long time to get a diagnosis as the symptoms were so vague and varied. It took my osteopath to say I think you might have this, which I had never heard of, and for me to explore information online to take to the doctors to say do you think I might have this because of these reasons. The gp wasn't one of the main ones in the surgery and they listened to me and took it seriously. Their investigations and referring me to a rheumatoid consultant gave me the diagnosis a year later. It also gave me respect from the other gps.
I think you can get their two, but you may need to be persistent. Once the jigsaw pieces are put together and put in front of them then they cannot deny it as easily, and then they take it more serious. I got my medical records and then looked at them with the fibromyalgia symptoms. They believe I began showing symptoms at the age of 15, nearly 20 years ago.
There don't seem to be fibro specialists listed anywhere. I also wanted to see one
