WBC Morphology Review

Hi CLL Friends,

April 24, next Wed. is my next appt. at MSK. Started preparing my questions (and getting anxious), even though I was tested as uMRD6 in blood and bone marrow, and should be going on every 3 month checkups. One test showing on the portal, they did for the first time, March 6, 2024,: "WBC Morphology Review, " It has a "#V" as the result, nothing else. My out of parameter results March 6 were: WBC 3.7, RBC 3.77, Abs. lymph .7 , mono 19%. If anyone has seen this "#V" under WBC Morphology Review and can comment I appreciate it. Thanks very much.

Susan

No clue what that could mean. The # usually is a shorthand for a count. But who knows what the programmer or author of the report was thinking. Your WBC count looks like it might be below the statistical norm. I compared with my 15 or so years of blood tests, at the lowest low I have is 3.8K, with some labs using 4K, 4.1K, and even 4.5K for the low end of the scale.

When they do a blood test, they usually do counts on an automated cell counter. Because we have CLL, the counter often flags the result to be manually reviewed by a pathologist. They either put a drop of the sample on a slide and view it, or if the cell counter is expensive enough, it takes photos of the various types of cells as it counts them. They're looking for odd sizes, shapes, and coloring.

The low WBC might have triggered an automated response that wasn't completely coded to be informative to patients. Look for a separate result that might be related to this, like "pathology review" mumblemumble.
