Time to say goodbye.

Today is Mum's funeral. It has been quite a long wait but I will be relieved to see her on her way and try to move forward. It has been quite a strain as her husband has basically given up and left all the arrangements to my brother and i. However needs must and we felt it our duty to her. Health wise I am doing reasonably well. Latest blood counts were ok but the abscess is still not giving up and discharging still albeit not as bad as it has been. Love and strength to all.

Jack - I am very sorry your mother passed away. I know you will miss her greatly. Parents are very special because their love for you is truly unconditional. Parents are excited to hear about your successes and grieve with you about your losses.

You are obviously a dutiful son trying to do right by her. Take some time to enjoy some special memories of her.

My condolences to you. My father fell apart after my mum died. Just didn’t cope at all well despite being a wonderful carer to her and left all the funeral arrangements to us. He was finally diagnosed with PTSD (from his active service) but triggered again by mum’s death. I guess I’m saying we never know what’s going on in someone’s head. I thought at the time he didn’t care and found out out many months later that wasn’t the case. He just couldn’t cope with losing her. Hard when you’re not in good health yourself. Hope it all goes well at the funeral. Give yourself time to grieve too.

So long as you remember your mother or father they are never truly gone. 5 years down the line I still on occasion find myself heading towards the phone - something or someone reminds of Mum or it's one of the times of day that we tended to talk. It's bitter and sweet - more sweet with the passage of time. Dad has been gone a lot longer but sometimes I still get reminded. They mattered so much . . .

Take care of yourself in all aspects and allow yourself to grieve as the need takes you.
