Welcome to our site Moorland at a difficult time for you as newly diagnosed. Tell us a little more about yourself (without disclosing private information obviously). We’re you diagnosed ‘accidentally’ by your GP or had you been experiencing health issues? I notice you have some breathlessness on exertion. That sometimes can be due to lowered haemoglobin levels (anaemia) which is associated with CLL.You’ll see a haematologist in due course in the U.K. and probably be monitored every 3-6 months. This is called the Watch & Wait period or Active Monitoring. The key thing your specialist will be looking for is trends in your blood results. You’ll find there’s much interest in how your absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) is looking in particular. Do you have any other symptoms like swollen nodes, tiredness etc?
Please feel free to ask anything at all. You’ll find you’ve come to a supportive and helpful community who understand CLL throughout all the stages. Be aware that what we receive in the U.K. can differ considerably to the American experience so you may not be offered the detailed level of diagnostic testing which is given early there (like a FISH test which details your genetic/chromosomal profile).
Hope you are coping emotionally at what can be an anxious time.
Best wishes,
Newdawn

Dear Moorland,
I have found this site to be extremely useful and comforting. There are other sites as well but this is my go-to site everyday. I have learned so much from others with CLL.
I am also on Watch and Wait. Thanks to the many descriptions of treatment and when to be treated, I am no longer fearful of CLL. Covid, yes but CLL, no.
Hey Moorland
Welcome to our family; one large family, where every relative has CLL. Who said this wasn't an inherited illness?
Actually I'm the fourth in a row in my actual biological line on my Father's side. There is me, my Father, his Mother, and her Father. So you might say I have many decades of experience with knowing this illness. The first thing I'll tell you is to relax. My Grandmother went to 93 with CLL, and that was back in the dark ages of medical science on our illness.
A key thing to know, after you heard the word Leukemia, is this isn't the truly dreaded illness with a similar name. Our version of the illness has the word Chronic, which in and of itself means it tends to last a lifetime.
Learn about your illness from this site, where there are many of us who will spend a lot of time answering every question you can think of; and, they answer it very well and reliably. Make certain that your Specialist has a good background at a Special Cancer Center if possible.
I'll keep this short at this time. You are welcome to communicate either on our Board or private messaging.
Carl
