Researchers at UCLA have created a detailed map of human blood cells and how they develop in an embryo, which could help improve treatments for blood-related disorders like leukemia and sickle-cell disease in the future.
“We now have a manual of how hematopoietic stem cells are made in the embryo and how they acquire the unique properties that make them useful for patients,”
The researchers are now planning to use their data to try and create more viable transplantable hematopoietic stem cells in the lab, something that has been difficult until now.
I was asked to volunteer some of my blood (4 x vials) for research, by my haematologist (at Guy's Hospital, Cancer Centre, London) yesterday, when l had my CLL bloods done....... Obviously, I agreed.... Has anyone else been asked to volunteer blood samples?
