My twin sister got her 2 consecutive injections of Evusheld today in Los Angeles. She feels fine. I’m incredibly grateful to this wonderful CLL support group. If it wasn’t for the helpful posts and the sharing of deep and thoughtful research, we’d still be scrambling aimlessly and fruitlessly for those life saving meds.
We’ve had a few close calls with Covid, firstly, during Alpha in Feb 2020 when I thankfully didn’t expose my sister; secondly, with Omicron blazing through her entire family (husband and kids) all under the same roof; and thirdly, during a weekend getaway trip with a friend who tested negative prior to the trip and positive the next day when we got home.
We hope to have some mental comfort now that she has some protection from Covid.
I want to give a shout out to the people on this site who posted the US government therapeutic locator which helped me find the Evusheld and Sotrovimab. I can’t thank you enough for that post. It gave me focus and provided a platform for my efforts and hard work. The old adage, “The squeaky wheel gets the oil” truly applies to this medical endeavor. It was so difficult to get the Evusheld. It took weeks and many phone calls to doctors, pharmacies and facilities to finally find the decision makers and the remaining doses of Evusheld. (FYI - A well respected CLL doctor at UCLA Medical said their allotted 240 courses of Evusheld was gone in 3 days and he said mostly to transplant patients.)
It truly takes a team, community and lots of support to get a loved one the care they need.
Thank you all!!
