I receive a magazine free every month called Life Extension, and there are always fascinating articles on health and natural substances and life extension. I've been a member (free membership) for over twenty years, and the research they have done is incredible.
In the new issue an article caught my eye, I just read it, and I felt this is one I should pass on to all of our members on Healthunlocked. I imagine there is a percentage of our members on this site who already are familiar with the research in this article, but for those of you who are not you should read it.
Per the article, "Beta glucans have a remarkable ability to activate and stimulate both innate and adaptive immunity." As the article goes into in some detail, our adaptive immunity is provided by our lymphocytes and we already have more B lymphocytes than we need. For around a percent of us, the B Cell Receptors of our CLL are actually specific to fungal Beta Glucans. For this reason, I would suggest that anyone interested in using mushroom supplements in an attempt to improve their immunity, should carefully monitor their absolute lymphocyte count to be sure that it doesn't actually increase the progression of their CLL. I enjoy mushrooms in my diet, but I would not buy varieties that are promoted as immune stimulants.
Very useful to know! Mushrooms should also be grown organically because they absorb substances from the soil. There is one type of organic mushroom canned in supermarkets .
