Prof Dr Pete Hillmen retired from his (current) role at Leeds hospital at the end of January, after changing the world of PNH & CLL for so many patients.

Many of us have to thank him for our treatment in FLAIR and many other CLL clinical trials over the years. He will be continuing his clinical research and wish him well.

I’m happy for him and sad for us.

Aww that’s so sad for his patients but great to know that he’s continuing with the research. I think most of us, whether a patient or not, feel that we know him. Much the same as the lovely Prof Chris Fegan who’s care I was fortunate enough to be under for 4 years before he left also for research. He gave me such hope when I felt I had none, I will be forever grateful. There’s such a big difference between ‘care’ and ‘caring’, I consider myself so lucky.Peggy

As per previous post - happy for prof Hillmen- sad for us. Professor Hillmen was the first person to explain cll to me so i understood- also did flair trial under prof Hillmen. Thank you very much and good luck with the research.

Hi I had a consultation with Prof Hillman prior to the start of my first treatment and he guided me to Flair. I will be eternally grateful to him for this. Those in his care will find his retirement a great loss. I am pleased to hear he will continue with his research work which has benefitted us all. He deserves to enjoy his retirement. Good luck to him.Ann

Prof Hillmen persuaded me to have FCR not a BTKi back in March 2018 as a 2nd opinion! It turned out to be good advice!

I am sad to see him "go". He was a comfort to us all "steering" the ship we are all sailing on. Prof Fegan, Cardiff, has also retired. Another wonderful "captain" of the ship CLL!

I cant begrudge them a retirement, and wish them well.

As one who has benefited from knowing them both I can only wish them well!

Wishing him a very happy retirement, and glad he continues with research.

I have known Prof Pete Hillmen since almost the year I was diagnosed in 1997, and will greatly miss his fantastic care - I am enrolled in clinical trial led by him and hope I will still get to see him ocassionally, but wish him HAPPY RETIREMENT, He is truly dedicated to helping his patients and has made a massive contribution to getting closer to a cure, so happy to hear he is continuing research - I think he might have hinted he was retiring at my last appointment, but I only understand this now (he talked about work he was continuing but did not use the 'r' word!!
