I had Pfizer. The first night my arm hurt and after that absolutely fine šŸ™‚ Iā€™m concerned now as to whether we will get the second one, or if we do the gap will be too long.

Here in the USA 400,000+ people (out of 331 Million) that did not get the vaccine have died. Of the 12 million that have recieved the vaccine a very small number have had a reaction and no deaths have been linked to the vaccine as the direct cause. The two vaccines are expected to prevent infection in all but 10% (1.2 million) of the vaccinated and it is thought/hoped that those will have a mild case.-

For me the statistics favor getting the vaccine and testing afterwards to see if antibodies specific to COVID-19 are present in my blood.

A very short, concise, fact-supported and logical opinion from Len.

So many people see risk as a one way street. Risk has to be balanced. Is there a risk of a side effect with the vaccine? Yes, but serious side effects to the covid vaccine thus far have been rare and its not even clear related to the vaccine. I would still agree with anyone who claims there is a risk of a side effect taking the covid vaccine. That is a fact.

Is there a risk in not taking the vaccine and is it a greater risk than taking it? Yes and yes. We dont know if there are any deaths related to the vaccine. We will be at a half million deaths from covid in the near future in the US alone.

Let us go back in time to better understand the risk of not taking the vaccine. The current vaccine overs 95% protection to covid. What if the 400,000 people who died had gotten the vaccine? At 95% protection rate it might have saved 380000 lives, even the 20000 left over might have gotten some protection. Now its fair to argue the vaccine would not have been 95% protective in the higher risk group who died, but even a 75% rate would have saved 300000 lives.

A perfectly healthy 40 yr old might argue I do not need the risk of the vaccine because only 1/2 of 1 % of 40 yr olds die from covid. True, but the death rate for covid vaccine side effects is close to zero and by taking the vaccine you are helping to protect your grandparents.

I respect the rights of those who do not want the vaccine, its their body. I just do not see their reasoning as being remotely persuasive when you factor in the risk of not taking the vaccine, but for the few who might have a true medical reason not to take the vaccine.

Lol, I meant to start this out as a tip of the hat to Len for being so concise with his thoughts as opposed to the word salad posts I am prone to do and what do I do? Serve up more word salad. :)

Can't wait. Hopefully in next 2 weeks between my Obinutuzumab cycles. Just disappointed that the government isn't making mandatory, but as employment requirements , travel and insurance companies will probably do the job for them.Save lives, wear a mask and have the vaccine.

Hi I had the Oxford one yesterday. Arm a bit sore and flushed cheeks but took 2 tabs and feel fine. Itā€™s the only way to go if we ever want some sort of normality.

Thank you to all who replied but I will hold on while longer to see what the effects will be before having the vaccine.

I had my 1st dose 3 weeks ago with no problems.

I also had the Pfizer-BioNTech last week. Slightly achy arm for a day but no other side effects, apart from immense relief. As you are in the UK ā€˜hold on a while longerā€™ may not be an easy option if you initially refuse it when offered.

Pfizer one for me yesterday. No after effects.

Not even a sore arm.

Perhaps I dreamt it!

Hello Deniz2012

Good question, everyone will have to fight their own demons. 50% of the hospital staff where my wife works will not take the shots. Many will end up taking the shots under duress. My big question will it be effective for me? The people are divided between those who will refuse the shots and those who will trade their first born for a shot. When my time to get shots gets here, I will have shots. Blessings.

Thanks Big_Dee Thatā€™s why I am so not convinced that the vaccine will be good for me so why do I have to take it when the health care workers who are right in the lions den are refusing to take it after seeing so many dying can any one have an answer for that !!!! Good luck to us all

Why would we have the vaccine? Is it to protect ourselves? Is it to protect other people if we have the virus without knowing it, or both.Do we expect other people to have it to protect us and achieve herd immunity?

Why wouldnt we have the vaccine? If nobody wants the vaccine, millions more will die.

Many will lose the people they love and not just old people.

We cant be sure it will work but I am willing to try it out. I havent been offered it yet but eventually I want to spend time with my family. My grandsons are growing up. My Mum survived covid. She lives in a carehome but I have hardly seen her this year. I couldnt watch her open her birthday or Christmas presents. When you are 87 you havent time to waste isolating in your room. She has had the vaccine now. The home manager has requested a zoom call next week presumably to discuss future arrangements. Am I safe to visit her? Only in the partitioned room they have built and hardly used.

It isnt safe for me to enter the home and hold her hand because some staff wont have the vaccine!

How have all these people in carehomes died. It could only have been taken into the home by staff. There werent residents from other places in my Mums home.

It seems to me that it is the only way out of this mess. If all the staff and all the visitors to the carehome had the vaccine, I could visit. But only if I had mine. Maybe they wont want me if I dont have the vaccine when its offered.

Now younger people are in hospital. Its not just the old and infirm who die. I am sad. I dont want my life like this.

If this vaccine doesnt work or causes side effects, I cant imagine what will happen. The hospitals are filling up and other illnesses including cancer are getting less attention.

I am 63 and I have cll. I am prepared to try my luck and have the vaccine. If it doesnt work or has side effects, I will have tried. I dont want life like this. I have a nice warm house and plenty of food but many are losing everything they have. Anne uk

I believe the Health care worker see's the effect of covid on young and discern that it is not that bad. they feel if they get sick there body's will beat the illness with no problems. no reason to put a medically rush vaccine into their body's. just my thoughts and opinion.

Many younger people think they will fight it off. Worryingly hospitals are seeing young people. What if they pass it to other people?

Faitheachday profile image
Faitheachday in reply to AnneHill

unfortunately when we are young we are somewhat selfish. Not all but most. as CLL patients we must stay vigilant more than most people. always washing hands and not touching face that's about all we can do. it is very difficult to stop a virus.

I had the first Pfizer dose last week. Sore arm for a few days, and then I was extremely tired for several days as well. I hope that means my body is trying to build an immune response. Scheduled for the 2nd dose the first week of Feb. and could not be happier. Covid is much more of a concern to me than the vaccine.

Canā€™t wait to get it

Might be a little doubtful if it was a vet wanting to vaccinate me from a distance with a dart gun - even then I wouldnā€™t turn it down!Bring it on, please.

I had the first shot of Moderna yesterday. Other than a little soreness at the injection site, Iā€™ve had zero side effects so far. I even went for a four mile run last night and felt fine. Iā€™m presently on V & O and know that I may not get as much protection than the average person but I figure(and my doctor agrees) anything is better than nothing.
