QUESTION? Ive been seeing alot of talk on here about SHEILDING..BUT WHAT IS IT?
Kollock, Shielding is the UK's admonition to persons who are more susceptible to Covid-19 infection. The vulnerable, whether old or immune compromised--CLL causes each of us to be iffy in the immunity area, and especially those who are in treatment.
There is some possibility, however, for those on Ibrutinib to be a bit protected---but we are so different in the way and stages of our CLL, that we all need to take extra care.
I hope you are doing well--I would suppose you have been out of work as a server with co-vid causing shut downs, though that maybe a bit more open for you now. I would hope your jobs would require a mask and lots of handwashing.
Thank you for explaining this to me!! Yes I am a server but I havent been back to work yet! 2 ppl already tested positive and My place of work have been following the guidelines!! I dont know what to do! I do know this i may be exhausted from being home all day but my Health is so much more important to me..I just have to figure out when will be a good time to go back since there is no Vaccine!💓
The NHS sent letters to 2.2 million people who were considered "extremely clinically vulnerable'" to becoming very ill if they caught Covid-19. They were advised to stay at home at all times, to avoid all face to face contact, not to go to work, shops, not to go out for leisure, etc, to keep 2 meters distance from those who they shared there home with, until further notice (to be reviewed by 30 June). They were offered boxes of essential food to be delivered to their home if they could not access food, priority with online food deliveries, medication to be delivered if they had no one to volunteer to pick up medication.
Different parts of the UK: Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England, have gone on to set different guidelines to the relaxing of the advise to the extremely clinically vulnerable shielders. England is "pausing" the advise to shield from 1 August.
Some of the underlying health conditions listed in the Shielding Category are as follows:
1) Solid organ transplant recipients
2) People with specific cancers
* People with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer.
* People with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment.
* People having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer\* People having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors.
* People who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs.
3) People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.
4) People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cel).
5) People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.
6) People who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.
The above is taken from NHS letter sent on 25 March, 2020.
I think I saw the phrase "shelter in place" used for a similar thing in USA. Best wishes.
