40 year old MBL
Lynn, welcome to our CLL site. As you have obviously found, MBL is a precursor of CLL--or can be. And, while we may have only CLLers at the moment (not sure about that) we have had members active who were yet to go into CLL, but did eventually.
As for age, we have several younger than 40 years of age, some in their 40's , so it is a mix here as far as CLL is concerned.
I wanted to get the following link to you, as it explains quite well what you may already know about MBL and the possibilities of CLL, timing estimates, etc. Please do not take any statistical averages to mean that you will have the same experience. Some move very slowly and some never make it to CLL.
Hopefully you will hear from others who are MBL or who have had the experience of being diagnosed MBL and going on to CLL.
Best wishes for a long, long, and slow slow go with no symptoms.
I was 41.
MBL becomes quite quite common in people as they age, with about 5% of the population over 40 having MBL! There's low and high count MBL with low count MBL rarely progressing to CLL. Even high count MBL only has a progression rate of 1% to 2% per year, then it could be many years, if ever, before treatment for CLL may be required. By then CLL will most likely be curable. This 2015 article from Mayo Clinic CLL specialists explains more:
