Not sure if this recently approved combination treatment is the same as the aforementioned one because I couldn’t find a reference to 17p deletion in this one, but strides in the making just the same!

Fabulous news. Hope it is affordable. I realize one might well need financial aid but it has been posted here that help is available. I

don’t know if my 17p- would qualify but he is going to start a somewhat

similar trial with Pembrolizumab and Ibrutinib. I think anything that ends in mab is a humanized cell. And could have similar results. Hope so!

The thing that concerns me with this approval is that it refers to it being an appropriate option for “untreated” CLL patients, so having been on Imbruvica for a year, does that knock me out of eligibility, or am I misunderstanding?

Surprised the heck out of me that Huntsville, AL has a CLL trial. I’m from Birmingham and lived in Huntsville when first married. Not

to criticize Huntsville, just thought Univ. of Alabama B’ham was more known for studies.

They might have some, I didn’t peruse the entire 175 studies!

Survivor, it is a matter of having an alternative to Obinituzumab (CD20 targeting) and Chlorambucil (an old chemotherapy)--the combination of which has been a less invasive possibility with a 6 month duration.

This regimen will be at least a year, using Venetoclax (BCL targeting) rather than the chemotherapy, but still get a shorter time for treatment.

For untreated elderly CLL patients, there is now a choice for a shorter term treatment that "should" be a bit less expensive than the long-term treatments of other regimens. I will be watching for the efficacy of the treatment and its side effects with specific co-morbidities/profiles/ages
