My father has bloodstream infections and his WBC count is 28000. Is this a serious state

Hi, you have posted to a support community for those with a blood cancer that causes an increase in B-lymphocytes, which results in a high WBC. Given your father has a blood stream infection, that may well be why his WBC is high, because his body is busy making white blood cells for fighting his infection. Generally, because infections can cause high WBCs, testing for other possible causes by his doctor is probably unlikely until a while after he is over his infection IF his WBC still stays high. Then whether his high WBC is a serious state will depend on which white blood cell type is causing his high WBC and why. Your father needs to discuss his concerns with his doctor.
