I have a subscription to ConsumerLab. Here's their abstract on one application of bloodroot:

They have more detailed info on actual herbal products for sale in the U.S., and test for potency and contamination with by-products. They explain things well, cite scientific literature in their articles, and update findings periodically. They are neither pro- nor anti- herbal.
Herbal substances have been the subject of much legitimate research for a century or more. Often, we see "news" items about them on the web, but a deeper look reveals that what works in a test tube doesn't work so well once it's been digested. So scientists look for a way to deliver the effective molecule(s) to the right places.
